What exactly does this word mean and which European language is it from please?

When I was 16 I remember a boy at school used to greet me by saying 'Hi Chich' when it was our turn to dance together at my Debutante. It's my vague memory that it's a european term meaning 'friend' and I've always been rather fond of the word (perhaps because I was rather fond of the boy) but have only recently discovered myself using it when speaking to a close friend of mine. Because of this I would really like to confirm that the meaning I remember is the correct one and am curious which language this word is from? I can't seem to find it online. The only definition I keep getting is 'chick-pea'. Haha! Can anyone help? For some reason Croatian springs to mind but I'm not sure why. Reply to this

I'd be curious to find out. A good friend used to call me Chich -- short for "chicharon" which meant pork cracklings here in the Philippines. 😊 But if there is a European meaning, I'm curious to find out too. Reply to this
