Travel insurance

I am off traveling south east asia at the end of march, and just looking at travel insurance, I am getting big diffrences in prices, endsleigh and the post office seem to be charging around the £250 mark for 8 months, while companies like 24/7, and holiday safe are quoting under 100. Just wondered what peoples views where on the cheaper companies???

If anyone could help on this would be great... insurance can be soo confusing! We are backpacking around thailand, malasia, cambodia, vietnam, laos, china... then possibly australia. Not planning to do anything particularly crazy 😊 Reply to this

I think a lot depends on where you are based your age and what type of activities you are doing. I am based in the UK and I travel a fair bit and have an annual worlwide policy for less than £100 through Go Travel but I am limited to the lenth of my journeys and am not covered for any of les than 2 nights or more than 30 nights.
Might be worth looking at companies that cover students or special Gap year travel Insurance or backpacking insurance companies.Student associations should be able to help you,go on their website for info.
Make sure your insurance really does cover you for what you NEED it to cover you for.ie medical,accident,3 rd party,re-patration etc.If you are going bungy jumping ,white water rafting, ballon rides make sure you are covered.

Check what activities are covered by your policy - although you might not be doing anything crazy it might not be covered. Check out trekking, elephant riding, rafting and anything else you might do there.

Check what the excess is (the amount you have to pay if you claim) and the coverage for expensive items that you might be taking e.g. ipod/phone, laptop etc.

Most importantly, check that you are covered for repatriation (returning you to the UK in event of an accident) and fully for health costs, also in event of said accident.

Many companies don't cover you for more than a year, you can't extend the policy while travelling and only allow you to claim when you return to your home country. As you are only going for 8 months this probably won't affect you. Reply to this
