I need some inspiration for an African Safari.....
I have 2-3 weeks in August this year & want to travel to Africa for a safari, vic falls & wine tour in South Africa. (I originally wanted to go during migration but think this will not work given the time of year). So my questions:
1. Best place to safari - I know this can be contentious, so I want: small group size, good/luxury lodgings, experiences with the locals, not overrun with other tourists/tour buses, see the Big 5, not too much overland (happy to take balloons/flights), I would like to include boat/canoe trips. Where would you suggest & why?
2. I have been recommended Botswana (by a South African guy incidentially!) who said this is the best safari in Africa. Do you agree? If so what made it this way?
3. I want to include a trip to Vic Falls. Where should I fly into and any hotel recommendations? (I am thinking 1 night/2 day stop over).
4. How long do you think is the best amount of time for safari?
Thank you all in advance for any help........

Reply to this Hi Sarah,
You are are going to love it!!!
Fly to JNB either on CX, SA, or with emirates for a little shooping in Dubai.
Okavango is amazing, I can give you our contact. We just did a 3 nights, 4 days, total of 32 hours on drives/boats and it was simply amazing (not cheap sadly). I do not believe in longer safari as better safari...for me, go either 3 days in a camp, or 2 nights per camp and 2 camps.
Been to the Vic Falls too, but that was 30 months ago, so same time as you are going. Slept in a seriously historic place! Do not miss the rafting, scary, but simply amazing!
You can fly JNB-Maun...than fly to Victoria Falls and back to JNB. I would add few days in Cape Town if you haven't been yet to add up some serious wine and see the great white sharks, best time of the year. Few places to recommend in Hermanus too.
Okavango Delta, the wildlife paradise of Nxabega
Victoria Falls sunset....Zambezi rafting....
Great white sharks...great wines...welcome to Western Cape Reply to this Go to a private game reserve. Since they own the land they can go almost anywhere while a government owned reserve requires that the vehicles must stay on the road.
Reply to this Thanks both for the info & great advice. Just at the planning stage at the moment so will keep you posted on how I get on!
Hung Hei Fat Choi too for the Chinese New year next week!!!

Reply to this If you fly from Jhb to the falls you can Fly 1time. Yhey are the cheapest. I recently visited the falls and stayed at the Zambian side in Livingstone town. The falls was amazing and did loads of activities! Rafting and bungi is a must. I stayed at Fawlty Towers lodge. Really a nice place with friendly people and well kept facilities. It like a backpackers but with style!!! (http://www.adventure-africa.com/). Through them you can book varies activities!! If you want to see the big five I suggest you can do a walking safari in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park and you can go visit Chobe National park in Botswana for a day or do a tented camp and stay the nigh!!! between these two parks you are guaranteed to see the big 5!! Enjoy

You shouldn't hesitate ! Kenya is the rieght place for you, especially if you choose the Maasai Mara Reserve...AND if you choose the right guides ... locals !
Have a look at this website: www.massai-experience.org
That's just what they are offering ...

Have you decided on your African safari yet. I can recommend some operators inside of South Africa whom can tailor you a package exactly to your specifications.
Best regards
