Do you book your accommodation directly through the hotel?
13 years ago, November 29th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #123911
Hi everyone,

I would like to know if it is convenient to book through official hotel sites. Do you have good or bad experience with the whole process? Reply to this

Depends on the hotel, depends on the country. Always email the hotel first, ask them if there is a discount if you pay for the room in cash, 99% of the time the answer will be yes. As a former hotel owner I can tell you this is almost always the case. Rack rates listed on a hotels website have a lot of cushion, they can afford to give you 20% off or more in most cases. Typically they will start at 10-15% off, haggle, what have you got to lose? They want your business, and they like getting direct business over sales coming from agents or consolidators, not to mention travel as a whole still being down worldwide, use it to your advantage.
