Which is the best way to travel? In groups of friends with tour groups or just doing it on your own? Reply to this

good question and it's something that I've wondered about. I'd like to hear people state their pros and cons of the different methods. I was set to go on group tour this Fall to Japan/China, but changed my mind thinking that perhaps I might enjoy myself more as a solo traveler. Reply to this

I think there are tons of variables involved. For one, your personality type will go a long way in determining what works best. (An introvert flying solo might spend more time holed up in a hotel room than exploring a foreign city). Also, the length of the trip can be a big factor. For example, you might love traveling with your best friend for a week, but would be at her throat after a month.

Personally, traveling solo is how I choose to do it. (Right now, I'm one month into a year-long trip by myself.) The pros are that you have all the freedom in the world to come and go as you please (no bickering over itineraries, for example), and you sort of force yourself to go out and meet new people/explore. (When I traveled in Japan with a girlfriend, for example, we had an amazing time, but were very much wrapped up with each other. Didn't really feel that urgent need to be adventurous and throw myself in with the locals.) Of course, the down side is that it can get lonely - VERY lonely - at its worst. But more often than not, I'll have a bad day or two, surrounded by an amazing couple of weeks. It's the only way I'd travel.

The best way to travel is by unicycle. Other "so-called travellers" are just posers.

Hmm well now i'm even more confused!!

Both ways seem to have their pros and cons but what about the danger side of things - i mean ive always heard that two or three female backpackers would get more trouble than two or three guys! is this likely to be true? has anyone experienced any trouble when they've been travelling and have any tips on how to avoid it? I like travelling with people, I've been travelling with my boyfriend for awhile...I think its safer for a girl as well, if I'm walking somewhere and its a bit late or dark, I'd rather have someone with me. Reply to this
