Last year I was pulled up by a policeman in Australia who gave me a ticket for overtaking at traffic lights. What I had done was ride my motorbike past the cars to the front of the queue. In the UK this is called filtering and is not illegal.
The officer told me that I did not have to pay but that if I wanted to go to Canada in 5 years time I could have problems. I think he was having a bad day cos he also tried to get me for drink driving - I was sober, and the vehicle not being licensed, it was AND it was a hired bike. He asked how much the fine was in equal to in sterling and when I told him he replied "oh I hoped it was more than that".
As I am going to US in Aug I am concerned that I may have problems entering cos of my Aussie adventure. The officer took my passport number and put that on the ticket instead of my address.
So the questions are..........................how much cooperation is there between the US and Australia?
Would the Aussie officials really contact the US to warn that the owner of passport number.....has an unpaid motoring fine?
Would the US really refuse me entry for this?
Any and all help will be good to save me worrying on the plane that I might be flying straight back home!
Reply to this I would be SHOCKED if US didn't let you in, like completely stunned. The States couldn't catch the decemeber shoe bomber on a terrorist watch list flying into Detroit and they will nab you for a bloody traffic ticket? Not happening. Maybe if you murdered someone, but even then MAYBE.
The cost to upload every person with a traffic ticket into a international database would be way more than your traffic ticket. Maybe one day the technology will be there, but not yet.
Reply to this Cheers buddy, that's the way I see it, perhaps it's just people being jealous of my proposed ride trying to worry me......!!
