I'm looking to spend about 3 weeks in Cape Town as part of my RTW trip in March/ April Next year, as i understand it that would be right on the start of one of the low seasons for Cape Town. After doing some reading and looking at multiple blogs i found one in particular that had a well built spread sheet ( cant work out how to show my saved one to better explain the budgeting i came up with) but after an hour mucking around with figures ect, i came up with the number of AUD$1339 @ AUD$63 a day.
Now this budgets for Accommodation, Food, Local transport ( no trips more then 2hrs outside CPT) Activities and a few splurges ( Souvenirs / skydive/ shark diving ) ect.
Also taking into account a rough estimate for conversion rate / ATM fees and a 10% loading on top of estimated daily figures that number seemed a little wrong to me. Altho i have no experience in traveling this part of the world to even have a opinion on it.
Has anyone recently done a week or so in Cape town that could confirm that number of around US$60 / AUD$65 a day on a budget backpacking style of trip. e.g budget hostels, no eating out, minimal alchohol, general sight seeing, minimal transport. basically staying central to Cape town, with a few splurges ( skydive, shark dive, few days in Simons Town, night or 2 on the town)
Trying to work on a rough estimated budget for my RTW trip and some recent figures from experienced travelers would be appreciated. Thanks

I see the experienced travelers are avoiding your question.
As a local, Cape Tonian, maybe I can help you with some answers?
At todays date, AUD60=ZAR403. Purely as an indication, I budget for around R350/day when I travel locally. You should get by.
Backpacker accommodation will cost you around R100 to R150/day . Daytrips around CPT (to Cape Point the Winelands etc) can be around R300 to R500. Sharkdiving Skydiving etc expensive (R1500 to R2000)
Restaurant prices: Breakfast about R60, Other meals from about R100 upwards. Beer from a liquor store about R5 and R15 in a pub.
Hope this helps. Ask if you have any other questions.
Reply to this Hi Chris, i'd say compare prices amongst travel agents - i know student flights has a "pimp your package" option,
Reply to this wow.. hope it'll be one of the best trips you'll have.
