travel insurance for 12-18 months

Travel insurance for Germans travelling for 12 to 18 months.

I will travel to Latin America in April this year for at least 12 months and I am wondering which insurance companies are good for Germans.

I found several which are fairly cheap for residents of the UK, but for Germans the price is 4 times as much. I have been living in the UK for almost 18 months now. Would that count as being a UK resident?

Has anyone any ideas and good experiences?

Many thanks in advance!! Reply to this

Hi Hanne, I've just got insurance from World Nomads based on recommendations from a lot of people. You can buy it online and select from loads of different home countries, I'm sure Germany would be one of them, UK definitely is. They also let you extend online and you can get more than 12 months in one go, which a lot of insurance companies don't cover. They're not the cheapest, but seem fairly comprehensive, although unless I have to claim I'll never really find out how good they are or not, hopefully won't need them!

One thing I've seen other people mention on this subject is that insurance companies will only repatriate you to the country you bought the insurance from. It's worth considering this because god forbid anything awful happened I'm guessing you'd prefer to be flown back to Germany than the UK? Reply to this
