Travel to Alaska with a toddler

Is Alaska doable with a 2 year old, are there still things we can do to enjoy?

I am contemplating traveling to Alaska in June early July timeframe. Our toddler will be 2 at that time. I am looking for suggestions for activities that we can do within a 10 day period traveling from PDX. Is it a good idea to go now or wait till he is older?

Thanks!

Hello The Subbus 😊

I think it would be OK if you go to hygienic countries. One of the most difficult things about going someplace with a toddler is preventing them from picking up, or eating not very clean things. Alaska is fairly clean, as far as I know. Another problem is if they are very active, and keep doing things like running away. This was my daughter. No going anywhere for us, if it was on a height, or if there was deep water.... while she was a toddler.

I couldnt have travelled with my daughter when she was 2, because she is particularily active, and as well as that nothing kept here entertained for more than a few minutes. But, from what I have heard, very few kids are this extreme, so maybe as long as you resign yourself to not being free to do all you want, you could travel with your kid.

Maybe one of those child carriers that you carry like a backpack might be useful for you. Your kid might find being carried around like that entertaining, and it would keep her/him out of the trouble (s)he might get in if free to run around.

If there are trains etc with child sections in them, try to book those. Some trains here in Germany have them, and it makes a big difference when you can let you child free in an enclosed space. Also, the toilets beside the child area are huge, so you can easily change diapers, and even take a pram in there. Maybe they have something like that in Alaska.
