iPhone charges overseas

How can I avoid getting massive bills when I return home?
14 years ago, February 24th 2010 No: 1 Msg: #104783
I've heard of people coming back from their trips and having to pay $5000 for their iPhone bills, being charged without even having to use the iPhone, simply carrying it around in their pocket.

How can I avoid such massive bills? I should only be paying for what I use, not for just carrying it overseas with me. Otherwise, it's ridiculous.

What can I do? I'm going overseas in 3 months.

My network provider is Telstra and it's Australian.

Thanks if anyone can help.

Regards

Hi Saki

Often when your phone is roaming you get charged when people call you, not only when you call out. I don't know about iphones, but perhaps you are charged to use things like applications and internet at a roaming rate.

One thing you could look into is buying a pay as you go simcard in each country you visit. You then pay local charges. You can call and text abroad etc but your phone is not roaming. You would need to make sure your phone is unlocked to do this.

Another option is to leave your iphone at home and simply buy a cheap local mobile to carry with you.

Where are you travelling to?
