seek advise on traveling by bus.
Hi, I plan to visit northern Tanzania in June2010, but will be arriving in Kenya first so I am trying to figure out if it is best to fly (which seems to be very costly) or take a bus. I am only traveling for a few weeks, so I want to make the best use of time. It seems the total time traveling varies from 4 hrs to 7 hrs or more, also read that the road is bad. Does anyone have recommendations which bus shuttle to take and what is a realistic time? many thanks!
Reply to this I travelled that same road in June 2008 (only from Nairobi to Arusha) and the road was good, plus the border crossing was efficient. Many bus companies ply the route - my Kenyan friend recommended a couple of companies who run smaller buses as being safer than others (i.e. they don't drive like lunatics!) and I will send you their names by private message.
The bus trip is not a total loss, as there is some nice scenery along the way and you are able to glimpse rural life as you pass it by. I thought it took about four hours to get to Arusha, so you would need to add an extra hour to get to Moshi.

I have to agree with Shane. I also took the bus from Naoirobi to Arusha. The road is not the best, but by African standarts its fine, takes around 5 hours and another one hour to Moshi. I think flying will be a waste of money. I did the ride with Kampala Coach, big comfortable sits, I recommend it.
Reply to this Hi,
I shuttled before between Nairobi - Arusha - Moshi. There are two very reliable companies that can be taken. I have sent their names on your private message.
Good luck
