Which countries are the most dangerous for them to travel in?

Yes you are right, there is violence against women among the poor and the uneducated. If you stick with the right crowd you should be fine. Turkey is my favourite country, been there several times, it is a multifaceted place with many different communities and cultures cohabiting togheter, especially in Istanbul. Yes, avoid back streets, LOL! Reply to this

I think it may be more than amongst the poor. There were reports of the police brutalising women, during womens day in Turkey, this year. Sad, that this is the response that women sometimes get, when they stand up for their rights.

And, apparently women are still pressured to commit honour suicide in Turkey.

I dont think Turkey ranks amongst the top women friendly countries, but I still go there. I will be going next year. Hopefully, travelling overland from Istanbul to Syria.

Mel, I can guarantee you that it is not that bad! I have lost the count of how many times I have been to Turkey. The first time I went there was 11 years ago, I was 20. I like that country so much that I am fluent in its language, I have LOTS of turkish male friends and I had a boyfriend for 3 years! I am sure there are lot's of reports about women mistreatments but there is also a lot of chivalry towards women too! And it's the uneducated as well not only the poor, honour suicides happen among the very conservative uneducated people, go to a middle class family and they will be horrified by it...just like in any country! The bottom line is Turkey is safe as long as you do't go in the back streets at night and avoid putting yourself in uncompromising situations, like anywhere else. Yes, men will stare at you....but not as much and as annoyingly as in my home country , Italy, which is supposed to be such a cultural, romantic country loved by everyone. In italy when I was 14 years old, I MEAN 14 I used to be stopped by the police with the excuse they wanted to see my ID just because they wanted to go out with me and get my phone number...I am serious! Well, I think our exposure to is is certainly limited, because we dont spend large parts of our lives there. At least I dont. And I do think Turkey has improved for women travellers in recent years. Turkey and Pakistan used to have the worst reputation for female travellers.

I am sure there are lot's of reports about women mistreatments but there is also a lot of chivalry towards women too!

Much as I like chivalry and romance, I would still put it second to basic safety and security for women. But, it shouldnt really need to be a choice between the two, I hope.

And it's the uneducated as well not only the poor, honour suicides happen among the very conservative uneducated people, go to a middle class family and they will be horrified by it...just like in any country!

At least some are horrified by it. Thank goodness for that! But, as for just like any other country, people are horrified by it everywhere, but things like this have stopped happening in many countries centuries ago. About time every country catches up, in my opinion.

Yes, men will stare at you....but not as much and as annoyingly as in my home country , Italy,..

Funny you should mention that. I had the worst experiences I ever had with men in any country in the world, when I went to Italy at 22 years old. I heard that has also changed a lot in Italy, and mens attitude towards foreign women has improved.

...which is supposed to be such a cultural, romantic country loved by everyone.

And Italy is exactly like that, now that some of the worst things happen a lot less.

I am serious!

I believe you. First time I was in Italy, I became allergic to Italian men. I was nervous when I decided to try going to Italy again, a few years ago, but even blonde women in their 20s reassured me that things have changed since I was first there, and I am glad to confirm that is true, but while taking into consideration that it might be just that men who are old enough to be interested in me, are also old enough to have learned how to behave better.
