I'm going to be in Zanzibar in January for 4 days after climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. What beaches would you recommend?

hi Casey, I'm so jealous that your going off to Zanzibar. I did the same thing in 2005, kili, safari and 6 days on the island. Fantastic memories. My advice about beaches is to head up to the north of the island Kendwa or Nungwi. However, they are a bit of a trek from the airport and Stone Town, so if you want to visit the island capital it will take 2/3 hrs each way by car/taxi.

I stayed at a small place, White Sands Beach Hotel, which is next to the Kendwa Rocks resort. Its run by a dutch couple, so very laid back. Just what i needed after climbing kili. Its perfectly located along the best beach i have ever seen and a short walk along the beach takes you to the Kendwa Rocks bar, which is a bit more lively in the evening. The food is excellent and well priced, likewise for the drinks prices. More lively still is Nungwi, a little further north. Its a bit busier and has the occasional full moon party if your timing is on. Its easy enough to get to in the evening by taxi. Here's a picture of the view from the bar/restaurant area. the email address is: info@zanzibar-white-sands-hotel.com

hope this info helps.
Enjoy your trip

The north beaches (like the ones in the previous post) are more for the lively crowd. If you want more laid back and quiet, go to the beaches in the east. Reply to this

Hi, I would also suggest the beach at the east coast. They have some decent snorkeling places. The best place to stay there is Robinsons place - a very unique and tranquil place - it is like heaven.

enjoy your trip, nina Reply to this
