Has anyone compared the cost of tourist visa fees from various countries?

I normally had to apply for tourist visas to visit countries especially those in Europe, North America, Australia and even some countries within Asia. I have always been turned off by exhorbitant visa fees charged by some embassies. Poland charges US$150. For a day trip to Gibraltar, UK visa was secured for US$50. I wonder which country charges the highest fee? Reply to this

150 US - That is very expensive.

I met a Romanian guy who told me that if he wanted to go to Ireland he would have to pay 1000 Euros for the visa. That seems ridiculously expensive. I didnt check anywhere to find out if it is true or not that it costs that much.

I payed 60 Euros for an express visa for Iran and 50 Euros for an agent in Iran to get me a visa code from the Foreign office in Tehran. I suppose, I could have tried just applying for a regular tourist visa for Iran without the visa code but that would have taken longer and it would also have meant that my visa application would have more chance of being turned down.

When I worked in Canada, I had to have a work visa. I payed around 200 Euros for that.

I think those visa fees are just money spinners for the various governments.

American and Canadian passport holders get charged pretty high visa fees for some S. American countries.

I just remembered I paid 7,000 pesos for a visa to Turkey (that's nearly US$ 145) only last February 2009. And you are right, Mell, about the money spinner bit. I heard the US embassy here in Manila really rakes it in , as there are many Filipinos lining up for visas to visit US of A. I do not know how much it costs to get one now, but I'm pretty sure it is over US$100. Reply to this

What passport do you hold Lilliram? I have an Irish one. Irish citizens have it relatively easy, where visas are concerned. I was in Uganda and Kenya with a Dutch guy once. He had to pay for visas for both countries, while I got them free of charge. Reply to this

I carry a Philippine passport, and had to pay my way through 😞...........unlike my niece Shelly who traveled with me who either paid less or didn't pay any at all. She carries an Australian passport. In Turkey, she only paid US$20 for a visa when we got there. And she didn't need to secure a Schengen visa to visit most countries in Europe. Reply to this
