Hi Everyone!

I'm looking to take my first overseas vacation trip. I'm from Toronto, Canada. I am just wondering if anyone knows a good and safe place for me to take my first trip. I'm up for any ideas and somewhere inexpensive would be ideal. Any advice would be great!

thanks in advance!

Hello Rachel 😊

There are a lot of places which are reasonably safe for women travellers. The one that most comes to mind for me is Thailand. It is the only country in the world where I have never experienced sexual harassment. Also, violent assault against women travellers is rare in Thailand.

And Thailand is one of the most inexpensive countries in the world.

Thanks a lot. Thailand is actually in my list of places I want to go!
I'm actually going through a company called Intrepid Travel.. So there are several different packages available.

Check out the list and let me know if anything sticks out as a good deal?

thanks again!

Maybe the more experienced travellers will correct me, but I'm pretty sure package deals will end up being more expensive. Reply to this

What I would do is go to Thailand without a tour. Get a gudebook such as the Lonely Planet guide to Thailand. It has just about all the information an independent traveller needs.

And as Chris said, a tour will make your trip more expensive. Tours are also more restrictive than independent travel.

But if you do intend to go on a tour, then just choose whichever country you are most interested in. You will be safe in anyplace the tours go to.

I agree with the 'go without a tour' - even moreso with Thailand, as you will find a ton of options once you are there. That will also give you the chance to bargain and compare prices - and they will nearly always drop when you start to walk away ;-) Reply to this

You could go to Bangkok independently and then do various tours from there. That should work out a lot cheaper. You can go to Kanchanaburi and do a trip from there, and up to Chiang Mai and book a three day trek there. You will meet a load of people on this sort of trip that you can continue to travel with.

Thailand is soooo easy to travel in.
