Cheap countries to travel in (based on past and current political situations)

Hi folks, new to the forums and travelblog in general. I did a web search for "cheapest countries to travel in" and I came across a link to travelblog with a similar question, but the answers were from 2005. May I pose the same question, what ARE the cheapest countries currently to travel in, based on 1) accommodations, 2) price of street food vs. restaurants, 3) price of local travel vs. long-distance trips, and 4) best free and low-price sights to see!

Thanks in advance for any and all help!

Hi Bryan,

Welcome to TravelBlog.

SE Asia will probably be the cheapest overall. Another thing to consider is the exchange rate - currently bad for some, great for others 😉 Reply to this

Hello Bryan 😊

Welcome to TravelBlog.

At the moment the cheapest for most things would be
Thailand
North India
Iran
Kyrgyzstan

and maybe but I am not sure. Somebody else can provide more detail.
Bolivia
Honduras
Nicaragua
Laos
Cambodia
Vietnam
Other parts of India

There are more(maybe others will add to the list), but not including the visa costs you could get by in the above countries for 20 Euros or less per day.

How about travelling to the Philippines?

I myself would like to travel to Batanes, Philippines northernmost island.

It's not a commercial tourist site though. It's more for the adventure seeking ones. Camiguin is also a nice place.

If you like to stretch your money, well...at the rate of $1=Php 48.00, that would be bargain. You can have a decent meal of fries, burger and drink for Php 55.oo. That's just to give you an idea of your money's worth. A jeepney ride would be Php 7.oo for 3 kilometers.

I think Bolivia and Peru is quite cheap (Lake titicaca is wonderful and dirt cheap)

Other than that, SE Asia Reply to this

I would recommend Ecuador if you are looking for a great value. Spent 3 weeks there last summer and it was very easy on the wallet. Plus with the USD as currency, you can really see how much of a deal you're getting. But be sure to take plenty of $1 bills with you as most businesses don't have very much change. Reply to this

I also think SE Asia is a good bet, especially with the more favourable exchange rate now.

Estimated ROE now:
USD1 will get you:

Indonesia Rupiah 10,475
Philippine Peso 47.595
Thai Baht 34.600
Vietnam Dong 17,790
