Good Day to all travelers out there! Can you guys kindly answer our simple questions regarding the travelers and their use of travel guide :D We really need this for our school paper. Thank you!!

Questionnaire:
1. Who are the travelers that usually buy a travel guide in terms of age, gender, civil status, country of origin,
2. what are the attributes that travelers consider in buying a travel guide
3. Why do they buy travel guide?
4. Where do they usually buy travel guides?
5. Why do they go to the Philippines?
6. How many days do they stay? Average?
7. How much are they willing to pay for in a travel guide?
8. How do they get information aside from travel guide? Is it important to have a travel aside from the fact that the internet provides the same information seen in a travel guide.
9. What do you think of a hand held electronic(gadget) travel guide?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!

Hello Ryan 😊

1. I am 39 and usually take a Lonely Planet or Rough Guide with me to the countries I visit. I started using these guides soon after I started travelling when I was 19.

2. Reliable and accurate information about safety and customs in the countries I visit.

3. To get information. The guides give me a general overview about what to expect when I visit a particular country.

4. In a bookshop.

5. I have not yet been to the Phillipines. But I would like to go because it seems like a different and interesting place from where I live.

6. 10

7. 40 Euros for one with a good reputation. Nothing for others.

8. Travel sites. Other travellers. The media. People who are from or live in the particular countries. Yes, it is important to have a guide book. On the internet one has to search and ask a lot to get all the information that the books provide.

9. Yet another piece of travel trash for sale.

1. I am 34 (aarghhh, I am getting old... ), use Lonely Planet, have used them since I was 16 or so...
2. Overview of what to see, customs, history and a general idea of what things should cost (with a little of adding for the year or more delay the guide comes out in, due to general inflation and a little subtracting, because I always tend to spend less then what they quote); also for the maps, especially the city maps.
3. See number 2.
4. In a bookshop, sometimes on internet.
5. Not been to the Phillipines, but will be getting there.
6. nowadays about 3 to 4 month, down from between 6 and 8 month a year or two ago...
7. I think LP's cost about 30 euro or so... Don't know, whatever the LP costs...
8. Travel sites, other travellers, media, friends, locals etc. etc... And I agree with Mel on the the why having a seperate travel book is important.
9. Nothing... I'll think about it when it comes in the stores...

Don't use any travel guide for the last 10 years. Well, not true, buy one of them in 10 years.

Most of the time, internet is a way better way to get info these days...and it's up to date.

The other way is to use concierges in the best hotels...even if I don't stay there. I show up and go to the guy with the golden keys...and tell him. I'm not staying here but I know you are one of the best at what you are doing in this city...and than you ask your question. Make it precise, don't waste his time, and if you do, tip him.

This way we may still burn way too much carbon while going on planes...but at least we save few trees... Reply to this
