Is it possible in this financial climate?

Do you think you could work your way around the globe - only spending money you have earnt along the way?

Is it realistically possible to go country to country and find work?

Are language barriers enough to prevent you from finding temporary work? Reply to this

Dear Simon,

If you are looking at working in different countries, you will have to ensure that you have a work permit in each of these countries else you would have to risk being employed illegally.

However, I do know a lot of people who work for short durations during the year, save up the money and use that money to travel. Its relatively simpler to find a well paying job in your own country. Alternatively, you can look for a career which includes extensive travelling. This is cheaper as your organization takes care of the travel and stay you only have to figure out site-seeing by yourself. Reply to this

You should... but in reality - there are many opportunities working under the counter in many places - though these jobs will be very low paid - probably only covering accommodation and food.

These jobs are usually working with tourists in hostels, bars, restaurants - and you'll hear about them by asking around - nothing you can really plan in advance. Reply to this

To add: teaching english is one way that many travellers fund perpetual trips - the school employing you will usually arrange all the paper work. TEFL (teaching English as a foreign language) is a very popular course. Reply to this

It depends on what kind of work you want to do. In most Asian countries you're pretty limited, with teaching being all that you're supposed to do. there is often modeling or extra work around.

I've been working and traveling for nearly 10 years. the trick is to be flexible and keep an eye out for opportunities. Often, if I find I bar or restaurant or guesthouse I like, I offer to promote them (hand out fliers, tell passersby) in exchange for free food and somewhere to stay. Have fun. Reply to this
