(If the police do that these days in Germany, it is a scandal at the level that it will be reported in the newspapers)

Even if it is reported ...people there wont care about it much.
If I remember right a few indians were hounded in the streets of germany recently after being beaten with half the town shouting behind them "foriegners out"...or auslander raus...
They do it on a daily basis and me and my friends suffered because of it.After a point of time I began to question the officers and some of them were embarassed.

Europe is still a little backward in many areas.
I had a friend called jutta who married an african and she said she is uninvited to parties because of her black kids. They simply dont want to be seen with them.

(I suppose a lot of the time we want to shed our foreigness and be treated like everybody else, and then when people keep looking on us as walking wallets and immoral Westerners, and different)

Yes I agree with you..but then many tourists spend lot of money and dont mind paying more and dont mind giving away money ....I dont think they are naive but simply they can afford to be like that....this makes some to think that all foriegners are 'walking wallets'.Churches in india regularly get handsome donations of money from abroad .....

There are a lot of westerners who come for sex ...so some indians mistake every foriegner is a little kinky..

One thing is for sure...You will have to dress like european and talk and walk and be a lot like european to get some respect and be treated like everybody else in europe ....but in India they will welcome you just like you are....more if you dress up like them but if you cant...even then they will welcome you with warmth.

Such a pity the response to generosity is so often greed.

That would certainly have made the international news. That would probably be where you found out about it. Would you mind posting the news link here so we can all read about it.

Not so sure about that. Changing your clothes wont make a rascist give up her/his rascism. Reply to this
