I think which blogging style we are attracted to is certainly a matter of taste. Lucky for us that there are so many individuals blogging on this site that we will always find plenty to interest us, whether we are interested in hiking stories, party stories, death and disaster or other.
I choose blogs to read and like for a number of reasons. Amongst those are: The blogger writes about not very touristed locations, the blogger blogs in an entertaining or/and funny way, the blogger gives travel information and opinions I am interested in, it is a blogger I want to know more about, the blogs are chatty, girl talk style, the blogs are about something I am fascinated by but wouldnt want to do myself or am trying to build up the courage to do.
Reply to this The ones that grab me get my attention with something unusual in that preview you see on the Travelblog.org home page. The 4 photos and about 4 sentences is enough to tell me whether someone knows what they're doing with a camera or the English language. If they're unexceptional with either, my eye skips to the next. Rather like listening to a CD for 10 seconds each track to see if you like it, then hitting the FFWD button.
So I'd rather read someone attempt to understand something about the place they're in, rather than a description of what they did. I don't need to see another picture of the Sydney Opera House for example
Reply to this I am reaching out to everyone to ask them.. "What do you look for in a travel blog"
Most often I find myself reading others blogs and walking away with a longing for more...I know I am not alone, so I thought the best people to ask are those that read and review travel blogs daily if not weekly (maybe even hourly).
I have started my own travel blog
and wonder if I am hitting the right people.
Looking for more....
Reply to this Most of all I look for an entertaining, fluent writing style. I read a lot of travelblogs during quiet moments at work, so I enjoy stories that relax me and provide some escapism. There are about half a dozen bloggers who are superb at this, and it's always a thrill when they publish new stories - I make myself a coffee, forget work for half an hour and appreciate every word.
If I only have five minutes I'll skim through some photos instead - either by browsing TravelBlog's 'highly-rated photos' albums or choosing a specific country. I like vivid pictures of cities or people, and if a photo catches my eye I'll often read the blog that it belongs to.
