Have you ever travelled with somebody who is new to travelling?

Did you travel as an independent traveller or go on a tour or other? If so, what did your travel companion think about the travel experience? What did (s)he love or hate about it?

I just got back from travelling independently with my boyfriend in India for a few weeks.

I planned a higher budget than backpacking would usually need in India, because I thought we would have to upgrade accomodation and transport because of past experiences of travelling with him and comments he has made about travel. He held up remarkably well, considering what a challanging travel destination India is. He even read the Lonely Planet every day.

Positive comment he made:
''There is something free about showing up at your hovel(this is what he calls backpacker style accomodation) as an Independent traveller and doing exactly what you want. ''

Negative comment he made:
''I am not keen on the living out of a backpack thing, packing and unpacking every couple of days....''

I traveled with my boyfriend for the first time this Christmas. We went to Chile where I had previously lived and worked for nearly 2 years. I was a bit nervous to see how it would be traveling together as most of my travels have been solo. He has done very little travel and I too had budgeted a lot more for hotels and food etc. It worked out perfectly. I was quite happy. We got along fabulously and he was able to go with the flow, and even calm me down a few times. I cannot wait to travel with him again. Next time I want to go somewhere niether of us has been Reply to this
