Tet Holidays is the greatest holidays in Vietnam. It is the time when family members from all parts of Vietnam and all parts of the World come back home to have family parties. During this time, Vietnam is an ocean of flags to recall the victory atmosphere of Vietnam revolution. Also it is a sign of the development in the future. All the streets are crowded with people, vehicles go up and down in hurry. Everyone looks very happy and cheerful.
All houses are beautifully decorated with many colors especially red color
that is considered to bring happiness and luckiness. People often go shopping to buy necessary things. The integral things are the materials for making Chung (square-shape sticky rice cake) and Banh day (rectangle- shaped sticky rice cake). These cakes are made from rice, fatty pork, bean, salt, pepper, and other spices. In order to have such delicious Chung cake and Banh day cake, people have to spend at least one day to cook them. They often sit by the cooking fire preparing other foods while seeing the Chung cake pot boiling. It is a cozy and happy atmosphere that you can easily see in Tet holidays.
From the final day of the old year to the first day of the new year, Vietnamese will light incense and bring offering to the family altar in order to honor their ancestors. This is also the time for people to visit and address best wishes to their family members and relatives, neighbors and friends. Particularly, in the new year eve, people often wish good things for them and their sibling as well as their lovers, it is said that all wishes will come true in the new year.
There are also many interesting activities happening during this time such as regatta (Dua thuyen), Lion dancing (Mua su tu), human chess (co nguoi), cock – fighting (choi ga) and other folk games. All make Vietnam more beautiful, animated and very bustling. Everyone seems to be lost in Ñnjoying and going out these days. They only come back to work from the 5th of January (lunar calendar).
Actually, Tet is a festival that all Vietnamese are looking forwards and it is the most happy and relaxed time for anyone.
