Basic Travel Questions
18 years ago, January 7th 2006 No: 1 Msg: #3646
Hello,
I have decided to take some time off school to travel; I want to go around the world, but the more I research = more confusion.
I'm not sure how to raise enough money ( I have the basic jobs that pay minimum wage), but is there any other ways. I heard of working in other countries, but I've heard that's tough for American citizens to do. I'd appreciate any suggestions.
I also want to go to third world countries if it's possible, but being female and young I'm wondering if that could be a problem?
Thanks guys. Any advice would be appreciated.

Working in third world countries would probably be limited to volunteer organisations - some will give your accomodation and food in return for your work - others will not. Your costs however in third world countries would be significantly lower, so working as a true 'volunteer' would probably not harm your budget.

I've had no experience of third world travel or volunteering whilst travelling - so I may be wrong on both counts... This comes more from others whom I have met.

My advice if you have a low budget is to not be overly ambitious - I feel that this is probably the reason I spent a lot of time worrying about my finances towards the end of my first trip. You could spend a year and see only one country and enjoy it more than if you saw them all.
