Hi!
My best friend and I have decided to head away somewhere for about 6 weeks to 2 months in January of next year. Only problem is that we can't decide where to go! We started with the idea of Hawaii and are still kind of thinking of that but there are so many other places! So much information we really don't know where to start! Basically we want somewhere that will have good weather at that time of year, that has good beaches, watersports, isn't hugely expensive (yes I know Hawaii is but it's a dream destination for us so just using that idea as a starting point.). Would love to hear your suggestions.

Reply to this Hawaii isn't as expensive as you would think, but you can do cheaper. I have a few friends who go to Tonga regularly, who rave about it. And Vanuatu should definitely be a thought..... but 6 weeks in one spot? Vietnam.
Reply to this Thanks. Will check out Vietnam. Hadn't really occurred to me. I think we'd be up for moving about a bit really. Doesn't have to be 6 weeks in the one place. Maybe split it half and half.

What about South East Asia.
It is certainly not expensive there and the weather will be good in January. In fact it is good enough all year round even during the rainy season.

Good beaches, watersports, not hugely expensive, beautiful countryside, a metropolis in the north, a cosy provincial capital in the middle and one of the most liveable cities in the world in the south; and you can enjoy the long evenings with daylight until 9pm.

NZ beaches Reply to this You want parties, food and beaches?: Thailand . You want lazy tropical islands?: Fiji/Tahiti/Vanuatu. You want sport , long distances and beaches?: Australia! (or NZ if you like shorter distances and cheaper costs).
But how about Bali, Lombok and Sumatra (maybe Nias?) in Indonesia? Cheap, great culture and food, and good surf too - and plenty of variety if you get bored...
