Do we need to book campsites in advance?

Campsite booking in Africa, or not?

Hi!

We were wondering whether anyone could give us some advice about camping in Southern Africa. We will be travelling by car for 3 months in Southern Africa, so not staying too long in any one place, and will be taking our own tent. We need to know whether we need to book every campsite/camping ground in advance, or if we can just turn up and stay the night?

We are looking to stay at the budget campsites where camping will only cost a small amount.

Also, if we do not book everything in advance, how easy will it be to find campsites/camping grounds along the way?

Thanks for your help! Reply to this

Hi,

It depends where and when you are going. If it is during the local school holidays, you might want to for the more popular campsites in National Parks and along the coast. Otherwise you should be fine.

There are campsites along the way in a lot of places but keep in mind that you might travel long distances between points without much in between in pretty harsh conditions in places. You might want to plot a map of campsites you can find on the web along your planned route/routes.
