Booking tours is never a pleasant experience. Even booking a one day tour is a pain in the arse. So imagine trying to book the most important tour of your trip so far, where you are basically trusting a complete stranger to take you into the wilderness of the Andean mountains for four days - yeah imagine booking THAT tour, on your own, after you've slightly overstayed your welcome in an Irish pub the night before. Ouch, ouch indeed. Everything really went belly up from the moment Sib said "Oh look, there's an Irish bar, I BET the grub's good in there!" It was our first afternoon in Cusco, and after recovering from our nightbus, we headed into the main square to get something to eat. That's when Paddy O'Flaherty's came into our life. We didn't ... read more

The last four days have been a challenge. Altitude, cold weather and long days hiking over high passes in Peru have taken their toll. We are exhausted and trying to catch up on sleep before we head back to Ecuador tonight. But it was completely worth it. Machu Picchu is an amazing place and we got to see a part of Peru that people rarely get to see, a sample of highland life and the connection between highlanders in Peru and the Incan civilization. We decided to dothe Lares valley trek that included Machu Picchu because we would get to see past and present cultures of highland Peru, not just the incan trail. There is also significantly less people on Lares Valley. We didn´t see any other groups on our hike. The trip started in Cuzco, ... read more

The Budget cattle were prodded onto a bus once more and whisked away to the sacred valley of the Incas. We started with the Urubamba vallley where we blocked out our guide Julio´s drone, to take photos of the amazing panorama of Cusco, once the foremost city of the Incas. Built in the shape of a puma, this charming city, 3326m above sea-level, was colonised by the Spanish, who mistook ´Cusco´(meaning´navel of the earth´in local Quechan) to mean ´little dog´(in Spanish). We then sidled through a long dark cave before heading back to the bus. Next stop was the llama farm and weaving centre where we had the opportunity to get up close and personal with a range of llamas and alpacas. Well, as close as they would let us anyway! Traditional weaving techniques were on ... read more

Just returning a bit sore after 4 days trekking along the Lares valley. Was all pretty amazing but very tiring. First day got out to Lares, hit the hot springs then did a nice "gentle" 4 hour hike up to our first camp site. Luckily the gods were smiling on me that day and a Peruvian woman appeared out of nowhere selling beer!! After a bit of 5 a side (at 3500m not recommended!!) some amazing food and a very cold nite we set off again. This time it was a 5 hour climb up to a pass at 4700m then another 4 hours back down. Pretty chilly and the climb almost killed a few of us, but all made it safely and had a few amazing views. This was all followed byalot off beer and ... read more

Unfortunetly me and linda waited to long to book the inca trail so we had to do an alternative trek...which was amazing. We began by waking up at 6 am and driving two hours through calca to start our hike. We walked through the scared valley to the Machacancha thermo-medicinal springs. The hike was nice, very scenic with lush mountains, the river, tombs in the mountains, and lots and lots of alpaca and llamas. We stopped to have lunch at the hot springs and relax in the springs as well. We then continued our hike to our first campsite. Along the way we meet with lots of kids and handed them school supplies and candy. The kids are all so so adorable. It is amazing how greatful they are for a pen or a lolipop, i ... read more

Hello my friends, how are you? I hope this email finds you in good spirits and good health! I am currently in Buenos Aires, a wonderful and lively city and the capital of Argentina. However, this entry will be focused on Machu Picchu and may be quite long for I had many amazing experiences on my way from Cuzco, Peru to Machu Picchu and you may hear about many of them! Lucky you! Just kidding, you may stop reading, of course, any time you wish. The journey began on the most important day of the year, April 9th, my birthday. A group of brave trekkers left Cuzco early in the morning to begin a wonderful hiking trip that would take us through traditional Andean villages, high mountain passes and unforgettable experiences finally ejecting us from ... read more
