And our trek begins. Up bright and early once again we meet in the lobby of our hotel and set out on the bus to begin our Inca Trail experience! 5kg in our duffel bags for the porters to carry including our sleeping bags was not alot and so vey have very minimaloptios of clothes for the 4 days!! Stiiiinky! :) It wasn't a fab start as one of our porters forgot their id so had to be sent home and replaed by another. They have 500 ppl enter the inca train everyday - 200 tourists and 300 porters and guides etc. We had 8 in our group - 6 from our tour and another couple from aus. Once the porters were loaded up with 25kg!!!!! on their backs and set off we were ready to ... read more

The trek was scheduled to take 4 days and 3 nights, hopefully arriving at Machu Picchu at around 7am on the fourth day. 48km is not a huge distance, but the path ahead would not be flat and because of the altitude our guide, Effe, assured us the pace would be slow but steady. Day 1 was supposed to be the easiest day, and so it turned out to be. That's not to say there weren't some great views along the way; highlights were two Inca ruins, Q'entimarka overlooking Willkarakay in the valley below, with the railway to Machu Picchu hidden amongst the trees behind. Most of the first day's hike was flat, with the occasional small house and food stall dotted along the way. It was a surprise to see settlements on the trail given ... read more

Been up since 4am, fully dressed but still lying in bed at 5.55, we were starting to hope that our tour had forgotten about us and we could forget all about the Inca trail and go back to bed; then the doorbell rang. Dammit! William, our tour guide greeted us and we boarded the bus that would take us to Sacred Valley. Here we stopped for breakfast before the hour journey to the start point, Piscakucho, KM82. From here we would start the 4 day, 43km trek to Machu Picchu. We did introductions at the beginning. We had a group of 14. There were 3 Americans, Laura, Brittany & Tammy on a holiday together (funniest Americans we’ll ever meet), 2 brummies James & Sarah, 2 Northern Irish Alan & John, another 3 Americans Julie, Lee & ... read more

The Inca Trail and Machu Picchu - what can I say amazing, exhilarating, satisfying and the physically hardest achievement to date! Four days trekking through the National Park of Machu Picchu, at altitudes of 4000m, along muddy and rocky paths, up and over the mountain and the steep climb down to the Sun Gate and then the Inca site of Machu Picchu!! The physical exertion to complete the Inca Trek was worth every part of the sweat (there was plenty) mosquitos (only a few thank goodness) and tears (fair few on day two, especially at the arrival of the camp!) to reach the Sun Gate on day four and look down to Machu Picchu- amazing. There are four guides and thirty four porters, the porters are just outstanding, small men carrying on their backs 25-30kgs, which ... read more

First of all, thank you to everyone reading the blog and we hope you are all enjoying it! It´s great to hear from you and have your comments once in a while! We have been a bit behind recently due to technical issues and a bit of laziness on our part! Secondly, the pics for the Inca trail are not really in order so sorry we will try and fix this when we have a better PC! Happy reading folks! The Inca Trail Soon enough, the 31st January came around and it was time for us to begin our Inca Trail. Although excited about it, we were also slightly dreading it as we had heard that it was going to be tough. Inca Trek Eve We discover that half of a 16 person group joining Peru ... read more

So when i last wrote we were taking a bus tour around Arequipa. It was very informative and we got good views of the surrounding volcanoes that sit around the city. We also went up to a view point and found some local dancers that were making some sort of video. Their dress was very bright and colourful and involved old and young, men and women. My photos on facebook best show what they looked like. They even got me and Stacey involved and we started dancing with them with our back packs on!! We went to a Llama farm where we saw Llamas in their pens and there was lots of information about Alpacas and Llamas and where they are found and the differences with their wool and fur. We then saw women weaving the ... read more

Where to begin! Put it this way, we were both tempted to buy the tackorama ‘I survived the Inca Trail’ T-shirt after we finished. The souring altitudes, pouring rain, slippery stone steps, sweat, 3am/5am starts and scorching sun on the Inca Trail made Machu Picchu the biggest pot of gold that we have ever seen at the end of the Inca Trail rainbow. The facts: 4 days, 3 nights organised tour with 'Inca Point' 21 tourists, 22 porters, 3 guides 43 kilometre trail Altitudes of up to 4300 metres above sea level Temperatures ranging between -5 to +25-30 degrees Day 1 Early start with a 630am pick up (South American time so it was around 715am) from our hostel, we joined 19 other backpackers on a bus and made our way to Ollantaytambo, a lovely little ... read more

Well, the Inca trail and Machu Piichu has been accomplished! After many sad goodbyes to Adventurist the kitten, we changed hostel to meet up with the rest of the people we were doing the Inca trail with in Cuzco. We used Wayki as they are under indigenous management, which sounded pretty good to us. Day 1: With a 5 am start on Thursday we jumped in a van and got driven to the starting point of the Inca trail. It was here that I realised how much stuff we were carrying vs how much the porters were carrying. There packs were massive compared to ours. We trekked for about 12kms, with a max altitude of around 3200m above sea level to our first camp. The track was Peruvian flat, which we soon learned meant some flat ... read more

First of all, I finally ate cuy, which is guinea pig. It was ok until my stomach decided that the process of eating an animal roasted whole like that was no good and protested. I will not likely eat it again, but it was a good learning experience! We left the hostel pretty early in the morning on the 17th to catch the bus out to the starting point for the Inca Trail. We loaded up our gear, clothes etc. that we had brought, as well as the sleeping bag and sleeping mat the trek company provided, and started the hike. In the first day we hiked through some pretty incredible scenery. We saw some ruins, lots of tropical plants because it was the rainy season, and we went through a few small areas where people ... read more

¡ Hola chicos !
