In typical South American fashion the day after we got the internet all up and working in our house, they cut it off because we hadn´t paid this month/week/moment they decided we chould have. Here there´s no such thing as bank transfers or standing orders and for some reason I really don´t understand, Claire has to go to the capital to pay! So no internet again untill Tuesday. *sigh* It´s a crazy system where they don´t tell you you need to pay, they just cut it off. Ah well, such is life! This week has been pretty similar to last. I´m slowly talking to more people, mostly of the age of 5. They don´t mind so much that I make mistakes. Last night I went for dinner with the British guy I met at the airport ... read more

So here it is folks, the first proper blog from Paraguay. I appologise for how long it's taken me, but that is because my computer is so very British that it decided it couldn't talk to the South American internet system, presumeably because it's in Spanish, and being British, my laptop only speaks English. So I've had to wait for a wireless router to arrive and be installed. I could have used the internet cafes, but they're sooooo slow, and also I've been writing this blog in notepad on my laptop since I arrived and couldn't be bothered to write it all again on another computer. But it's all good now, as the wireless router arrived the other day, and was installed this morning. Hoorah. Before I say anything else I have to say that it ... read more

I appologise for my almost complete radio silence. I´ve been having internet problems, as my laptop won´t connect and the internet cafes here are very slow and very unreliable. We´ve ordered a wireless router which should hopefully arrive tomorrow and should hopefully mean that I can then have the internet in my house and then properly update this blog. I´ve been writing a massive blog in notepad on my laptop and can´t be bothered to write it all again on an internet cafe plooter, so hopefully you can wait. So yes, just to say I´m alive, all my luggage arrived with me, it´s very very hot here and sort of in the words of Hellogoodbye, I miss you (all) quite terribly!... read more

After a month of hard graft at Iguazu Falls, I took early retirement and escaped across the border into Paraguay. Iguazu Falls and the rivers that feed her are on a triple frontier splitting Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil. By entering Paraguay it also meant I had completed the gringo bingo full house of Latin American countries. (Again, in my book Suriname is not truly Latino, being a former Dutch colony and all, so no letters of pedancy please). I quickly conceived a route that would take me into the Pantanal of Brazil, through the major cities of Paraguay. Major cities in Paraguay are like minor towns in the rest of South America. The majorest city of Paraguay is Asuncion, the capital. This was my first stop. Paraguay is the whipping boy of South America - although ... read more
