We´re safe - just haven´t had much time to update the blog - the jungle tires you out. It´s incredibly humid and we will be sailing the Amazon for three days, until we hit Manaus. I hope to find a speedier internet connection there for the uploading of photos and such.... read more

Just a very quick note to say that we´re safe and happily lounging at the seaside in Santa Marta... No time to update right now, but will do so soon! Salut, T / L... read more

The day had finally arrived for me to be sitting on a beach taking in the tranquility........a feat I had been trying to obtain for many months and had pretty much given up on as there are very few good beaches in the countries I had been in. Sharyn and I got ourselves organised and then got a lift into Santa Marta with Santiago to catch the bus out to the Parque Tayrona. In Santa Marta we had to grab some food and other necessities before finding the bus, this in itself proved to be a very fun experience and very Colombian. When we walked into the supermarket we found two men, one playing guitar and the other keyboards through an amp, and belting out a few salsa tracks for the shoppers who were enjoying the ... read more

After a slow start Darragh, Sharyn and I made it to the bus station and onto a bus that was apparantly going directly to Santa Marta, about 4 hours north of Cartagena. It didn't take long for all of us to get comfortable and enjoy the chance to do nothing for 4 hours on the bus. Only a couple of hours later though we pull into a large town and were told bluntly to get off the bus and change to another smaller one......yes just another instance where they tell gringos whatever they want to hear. Again after a bus ride that took longer than expected we arrived in the bustling town of Santa Marta. Santa Marta is a large industrial port town with not a lot of interest for us so we jumped straight into ... read more

Tayrona National Park - a little bit of heaven, except for the chickens, and the skull cracking falling coconuts.... and the horses who EAT everything, including the last three chapters of my murder thriller before I´d finished it!!! Oh and the mosquitos carrying dengue fever! But I guess the balmy waters of the Carribean where we skinny dipped in the rain and the gold dust mica which is mixed in with the sand so when the waves roll in the sea is full of gold sparkles and the warm rocks you can lie on in the sun and the coconuts which if they dont hit you on the head are there for the eating make it an alright place to pass a day or two!... read more

We travelled and unravelled through Colombias Colonial towns. This is how towns should be, every house, building, park, church is sooo beautiful and so few cars, just people hanging out chatting, relaxing. Colombia really is COOL. And then we reached Bogota where we drank ALOT of coffee and it rained, hailed, blew cold wind. We went to a rock festival where they played death metal and there were a lot of disaffected youth wearing black MOSHING which involved human dodgem cars. I visited San Augustine where there are many cool statues left by the indians and amazing ENERGY. ... read more
