Barranquilla Tis time to write my blog so here I go. First comes the interrigation session as always when going through the lovely US of A. This time he wasn´t trying to convince me that I am a criminal. This time the moron was testing my patience. He was asking me why I went to Houston a year ago....to which I replied that I didn´t. Then I thought about it for a bit and realized that I was going to Rio through Houston...even though he already knew that because he had to have it in his computer. The he asked me why I was going to the United States. I said I wasn´t, and then he gave me a suspicious look and asked. "Why you don´t want to go to the US?" I couldn´t tell him ... read more

Happy Festivus! The nice thing about not celebrating Thanksgiving is that you can start playing Christmas music earlier without the stigma that often accompanies pre-TG festive music in the States. Things I wanted for Christmas that I totally got. 1. A chance to meet Miss Colombia. 2. A pumpkin pie. The man who hit Stephen King with a minivan died of an "accidental overdose" a year after hitting him. Lesson to be learned, don’t hit spooky horror writers. Speaking of Stephen King, the movie 1408 based on one of his stories is excellent and one of the scarier movies I’ve seen in a long time. Oh, and I have a man-crush on John Cusack. If I was in charge in of Homeland Security I’d just go to a Royals game and anyone who was rooting for ... read more

It was really nice having two sea days which gave us time to get organized, meet our Cruise Specialists passengers and stow everything we brought aboard. It took some fancy footwork to find the tuxedo, studs, shoes, evening dress and accessories amid all of the different bags and get the clothes pressed and presentable in time for the opening round of parties. Our first night at sea began with a festive block party where we met our neighbors out in the hallway. This was followed by the formal Captain’s welcome aboard party in the atrium. Captain Dag introduced the ship’s staff which included many friendly faces. Engelbert the Hotel Director, Jamie the Cruise Director, Dana is Jamie’s assistant and wife, Phil the Tour Manager, Gudrun the Cruise Consultant and Cornel is the Executive Chef. It is ... read more

When we sat at home thinking of which countries we'd visit, Colombia wasn't somewhere we envisioned having time to see, infact we thought we'd only have reached Bolivia by Christmas. But it turned out that time was on our side and as it kept coming up in conversation with other travelers as one of the must see countries in South America we tagged it on. When I told my mum we were going, being a bit of a worrier to say the least, she said in horror, “Oh Charlotte you're not, please don’t go there it’s so dangerous”, which to be fair is the general consensus of anyone who hasn’t been there (little did we know that leaving the place would be the most dangerous part, but that's the next blog!). Having spent a month there ... read more
