After more than nine month of travelling and three quarters of my journey done I came to Sao Paulo to visit my friend Holger. I was really happy to see him again! I stayed with him and his family for about a month and soon felt almost like at home. Since Holger lives in Sao Paulo permanently now I especially enjoyed having the chance to share everyday life. It was also a time for me to recover from the stresses and strains of continuous travel. For that opportunity I am really thankfull towards him and his family. During my time in Sao Paulo I also did some photographic work, wrote some parts of this travelblog, and started to organize the final part of my trip, the return to Germany. I planed to go back to Europe ... read more

Began my travel on the March 6th 2006. Went from Sao Paulo to San Jose-Ca. Haha, I got held up by the American Immigration in Chicago for 6 hours on my way to California. They told me I had illegalities on my visa work. It was scary cause they told they were going to send me back to Brazil if I did not clarify with the authorities my paper work. It worked out fine! Now I gotta save some money and plan my trip!!!... read more

I know that I am exactly a week behind in my entries to the blog, but unfortunately I didn´t have much access to any computers until this last Saturday because I had been out at the beach. Dan, my friend from NC, and I decided that after having gone all over Rio drinking coconut water and playing raquet ball on the beach that it was time to leave the city of Rio de Janeiro and go to Praia Grande where his relatives have a beach house. Praia grande is about 80 KM south of Rio, but still in the state of the same name. It is a small beach by Brazilian standards, probably 300 yards long and has a depth of 50 yards. The sand is almost white and the water is not perfectly clear but ... read more

Last Wednesday night, I went out with my friend Dan, his cousin of 27 years, Caito, and his other cousin who is 32, Neno to fish from the shore with these huge fishing poles. I have never been a fan of fishing anywhere but in open sea. In the open sea you get huge fish that bite left and right, but anywhere else it reminds me more of Tom Sawyer sleeping at the river´s edge than of an MTV reality show where the kids pull up fish one clip after the next - no patience involved. So, we planted the fold out chairs on the beach, dug the holes for the rods and cast as far as possible out into the pitch dark where the only notable difference between the sky and the sea is the ... read more

Well, here I am back where I started a week ago in Sao Paulo. Rio was great. On Sunday night last week Daniel and I went to the Samba parade in Rio. For all the hoopla that you hear outside of Brazil, the parade is very organized and VERY safe. You have to go through 3 to 4 check points just to get into the stands and then once in the stands you must stay in your sections. At 7:30PM last Sunday, Dan and I stopped a taxi on the street, bargained the price, and took off from Copacabana to the Sambodromo. Think of the Sambodromo as a 6 lane street that is 2 km long and running along the sides are concrete block stands, no seats, that raise some 6 stories into the air. Everyone ... read more

Sao Paulo! Sao Paulo! Sao Paulo! The best city in the world! Today we slept in until 4:50 am... no wait we got up early... no wait we never even slept... anyone know what day it even is? Found our way to the bus station, and to our bus, probably the nicest bus I have ever seen, it even fed us and gave us Portuguese newspaper(s). We arrived in Sao Paulo at 11:57 AM. What a beautiful day. Gorgeous view, and smog levels at an all time medium. Some of the beautiful sights we saw between our arrival at 11:57AM and our flight out to Iguacu at 3:51PM were more incredible than we ever expected. First of all, we saw the gorgeous Sao Paulo bus station, (apparently the nicest one in the city) before embarking on ... read more

I said a final farewell to my room mates who I had shared with for the tour, and got a taxi from the hotel at 7am to the International Airport. It was a horrible feeling to leave Rio and my friends, especially as I was missing out on the Sambadrome that night, but I had to move on. The flight over the city was again a breathtaking sight, and it didn't take much time at all to reach Sao Paolo, under an hour. I watched some English football highlights in the airport, then put my bags in Lockers, and decided to get a bus in to the town to have a look around. I got there at 1pm, and to the main high street Avenue Paulista. Sao Paolo is apparently one of the largest Cities in ... read more

From now on, I am travelling. I left Europe more than a month ago (time flies....when it's summer) but so far it has been hard work, ok in a really attractive city but hard work. Now, as I have a diploma in my pocket I can start my well deserved vacations! First stop this weekend: Sao Paulo For visiting Gaelle Loic and Mael, french friends who are living there for 18 months. It is really good to find a piece of France miles away from home (French cheese, french friends....) but it doesn't make it easy to realize I am in Brazil! Hopefully, a tour in the city (not that ugly according to me), the swimmingpool, then a couple of caipirinas and a moqueca help me to change my point of view! I even had a ... read more

Hi all, I've left Patagonia but intend to return another time. Beautful part of the planet. Would like to do more hikes on & under the glaciers. I am now in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Staying at a very cool hotel (www.hotelunique.com) . I met the most inspiring young Swiss lady during the week. She is 95% blind ( can see siloettes against the light) and has succesfully treked her own way around South America for the past 8 months!!! She climbed a 16000 ft volcano in Ecudor, was robbed in Chilie, climbed glaciers in Argentina, paraglides & snowboards in Switerland!!, and has skydived from 12000ft in Australia (On her last jump she didnt hear her audio-altmeter and was saved by an auto-emergencey shute at 300ft!!!!!) She has overcome all fear and life is a true adventure ... read more

We said that there wouldn´t be another blog until we leave, but considering that we´ve got nothing else to do, we decided to share with everyone what we were up to at the end of year festivities. Christmas was great! We had an awsome lunch, so much food - good food, prepared by my Mum and delicious Caipirinhas prepared by Tom. He even got a Caipirinha shirt for Xmas, with the recipe written on it in english! For New Years we went to Sao Paulo and stayed with my 'little' sister Anaïs. We got there on Friday and went have dinner at an all you can eat japanese restaurant - yummy, but a bit complicated for someone who doesn´t like fish! Saturday Anaïs took us to visit the old centre of the city, which we hadn´t ... read more
