Finally after 30 + hours of travel i arrive in my hotel room. It was an interesting journey. I got lost in Madrid airport with a girl from Estonia who was very stressed that she was going to lose her bags (she didn´t) I thnk she was called Helan. Then spent 1.5 hours waiting to clear passport control at. I then got my connection on the TAM flight to Forteleza the gate number changed I was of course completely oblivious to this and waited by gate 3 for my flight to come up I weventually found someone with a clip board (Always a sign of authority I feel!) who pointed me in the correct dircetion. I was feeling nice and ready to hit my hotel room and chill but unfortunately for me my bags did not ... read more

So after five days lying down in a hammocks and lying down some more in Belem watching Englands desperate win against Paraguay and watching a street carnival we decide to head off on the route to the coast, to lie down on the beach. After a few buses of high quality, and cost, we then get a 4x4 across an hour of sand dunes before arriving at our destination of Jericoacoara, which had been described by an over excitable Isreali as ´a dream´. After a short stroll around we can see why it has this reputation, the places is tiny and is made up of about 3 roads of sand all leading to the beach, these roads only have hostels, which are hammock fronted, and bars/restaurants which all look amazing and very chilled out. The next ... read more

Zoooooo 1-0 tegen Servie Montenegro. Natuurlijk hebben we naar de wedstrijd gekeken. zaten er al maanden op te wachten. Leuke eerste helft, gare tweede helft.

From Recife we traveled to Natal and then onto Fortelaza, both cities are based on tourism offering awesome beaches and night life. Not reallytoo much to say other than we spent a lot of time on the beach or out in the evening, sadly though not with any other gringos as it seems impossible to find them. The next big destination was jericoacoara which should really be renamed as the place of wana be pirates and hippies. Jeri is a wierd kind of a place, it takes over an hour in a 4x4 traveling over beaches dirt tracks and sand dunes to get there. When you get there you are greeted by a large village, made up of hotels, hostels, bars and restauraunts. There are no roads as such just streets of sand. We spent 4 ... read more

Hello Everyone! So we did it...we braved the many hour road trip that we were talking about at the end of our last blog. The trip turned out to be a bit longer than expected, 12 days instead of 6, due to some very unfortunate events (but makes for some interesting stories) and the day we finally returned to Recife we had to turn around to leave the next morning for another trip. So we have had no time to write about our experiences until now, so there is a lot of material to cover, but we are going to break it up over the next few blogs because we don’t want to overwhelm you! As for our first trip we were heading north to the city of Barreirinhas in the state of Maranhão and according ... read more

Calling in from a little beach place just north of Fortaleza...Monday morning and still a few people left after their weekend away...I´m still loving Brasil, wierd language (Portuguese) that, overheard, could be German, French, Russian or a lot of others...fortunately my limited español seems to work....the people are curious, friendly and cheerful....to us anyway!...amongst each other there´s a clear pecking order and an enormous inequality in wealth...however, notwithstanding the fact that I´ve not met any of the really wealthy (and probably won´t!) who may well have a sense of duty etc...but lets not go there just yet...there is a level of arrogance and rudeness by the ciustomer to the wait staff, for example , in restaurants that belies the insecurity of the disempowered...any little edge... Still and all, what a sombre note to set off on!...lets ... read more

So having had enough of city living - we decided that it was time to leave Fortaleza and head out to Jericoacoara - 4 hours up the coast by a mixture of mini-bus and 4x4. Our guide describes Jeri as a small , tranquil beach villiage - and it is really beautiful with the most amazing stars at night - the only problem being that it did seem to be a bit of a tourist trap with expensive boutiques lining the sandy streets. Having said that it shouldnt take away the beauty of the place - huge sand dunes (amazing for watching the sunset from) , calm seas (great for swimming) and animals wondering all over the place - a great place to chill. We also met some great people who were staying at the same ... read more

So from the beauty and tranquility of Lencois we headed off to the city of Fortaleza. I suppose you could call it the Benidorm of Brazil - huge skyscraper hotels right on the waterfront. Even though it wasnt what you would call picturesque - it did have a really pleasent atmosphere with lots of markets along the seafront. We didnt do a great deal there - though we did go out on a schooner for a couple of very relaxing hours. And Gina even managed to hunt down one the most exclusive hair salons in town for a hair cut - proper traveller that she is !!! ... read more
