Ciao a tutti! Baci Gia... read more

Hello all, Still having a great time, have had a very busy week, I have travelled from Rio through Brazillia, to Salvador then Ilheus and now in Itacare which is a really little mellow beach town in Bahia. Its really nice here- tropical beaches, hammocks and cocnuts straight from the tree. Me and some friends I have made have rented an apartment here for a week which is nice as it has given me time to catch up with myself. Rio was great- had a very good party atmosphere but it was very busy and with so much to see I was quite worn out by the time I left. Its a total contrast here- the pace is very slow and everyone is very relaxed which is lovely. Went to the most amazing beach yesterday- had ... read more

We took a touristy transfer service from Morros to Itacare. It was possible to do it by public transport but with no real saving in price and a lot more hassle, we bit the bullet and travelled Gringo class in a minibus! On arrival we were met by a team of touts all wanting us to stay with them. When offered a house near the sea for the princely sum of R$30 each (about £9) we were curious enough to take a look. A 4 bedroom house all to ourselves. It was nice, but in the middle of an area with lots of trees and therefore more than the odd mosquito. Still, it was less than 5 minutes to walk to the beach so who were we to complain?! The beach we were close to was ... read more

At my arrival in Belem I had quite a special welcome party. Walking in the city I was surprised by the amount of little clothing people wore and most worryingly coming from the male gender. When I started seeing more and more transvestites and drama queens running loose at each corner street, I thought to myself “where on earth am I??” I asked some guy, with make up overzealously spread out on his face, the reason why he was wearing pink fishnet pants, a thong and some feathers stuck to his bum. His answer was: “It’s the gay parade my love!!” With an Argentinean couple that I met on the boat, we decided to tag along the parade. It was Sunday and everything was closed, another good excuse to party. After that very special event and ... read more

Sorry for the huge lack of updates on the blog everyone- what with dodgy internet access, lots of activities to do and general laziness we´ve got a bit of a backlog to catch up on! We stayed for a few days in a really cool little beach town in Bahia called Itacare which was ideal after the physical exertions of trekking in Lencois and successive nightbuses! We went to some great beaches and Mike had a go at surfing and later did some capoeira (both were really good fun but hard work too - if he had a day job, he wouldn´t give it up!). ... read more

After the worlds largest Salt desert we travelled to various towns including the mining town of Potosi, Sucre, Cochabamba and Santa Cruz. Taxis in some of these towns steer their automobiles similar to rally drivers. Here I have to definitely write something about Sucre because for me it is one of the most pretty cities in Bolivia in my opinion has one of the nicest characters. Days here were spent gazing at some nice architecture and learning something about the Bolivian way of life. The museums in this vibrant town are a must see here. Apart from the management at our hostel, our sleeping place had a great vibe to it. Full of many nationalities that enjoy to party. Our location was ´Joyride´ which is mentioned within the lonely planet. This Bar/Cinema/restaurant owned by a certain ... read more

The contrast between foggy Valparaiso and tropical Bahia here in Brazil was expected, but did still come like a minor shock. It does take some days of adaptation after having changed climate, culture, language, friends and lifestyle. But now, when three weeks have passed which, except for a few days to start with in Salvador, all have been spent in the tropical little paradise of Itacaré, I feel pretty integrated into the Bahian way of life. Of course some things are easier than others to pick up... To start with, not really doing anything is a hobby that quite a few people seem to be enjoying here. It's actually quite amazing how another day passes by and you once again realize that you didn't have time to wash your clothes, study Portuguese, buy mosquito repellent, get ... read more

Ferias no Brasil!!!
