So after leaving the Brazilian side of the falls it took us two hours to cross the border and to get into Argentina. We got off the bus at the station and our hostel was literally just across the road. The place wasn't up to much, it looked like it was last decorated in the 70's and the windows didn't close so we knew we were going to get bitten to shit by mosquitos. We only stayed for two nights though so it wasn't too painful! After arriving we spent the rest of the day just chilling out and getting munched on by the mozzies, as there wasn't enough time to visit the falls that day. The next day we arrived at Iguazu falls and we really weren't sure what to expect to be honest. The ... read more

On the evening of January 2, we departed Buenos Aries on a Via Bariloche bus for what was supposed to be a 17 hour ride. We should have arrived in Puerto Iguazú by 12:10pm, which I had hoped would give us enough time to see the Brazilian side of the falls that afternoon. But we didn't arrive until a few hours later, and by the time we had checked into our hotel and had a bite to eat, we decided lack of time dictated we should just focus on the Argentinian side the next day. We probably could have taken a taxi over to the Brazilian side to save time spent on a bus, etc. I had read the Brazilian side offers a better panaramic view, and while it has a nice restaurant (Porto Canoas) isn't ... read more

Puerto Iguazu - Argentinian side After a very long over night bus journey that consisted of bad food and movies in Spanish we arrived in Puerto Iguazu, we checked into our hostel The Garden Stone and we finally had a private room a nice break from the dorms and the noisy snorers lol we headed to the supermarket to get supplies and chef Byrne russeled up a yummy spag bol before we hit the hay. The following morning we were up very early to catch a bus to the Argentinian side of the falls. We got to the park at 8.30am and once inside we had to take 2 trains to get to the top viewpoint. It was insane to be standing right on top of the falls. We both got very wet from all the ... read more

South America » Argentina » Misiones » Puerto Iguazú February 18th 2013

18/02 to 19/02: Puerto Iguazu Oh it felt soo good to arrive in Argentina, gone were the barbed wire/razor wire/electric fences surrounding properties (which seemed the 'norm' in Brazil) Once we crossed into Argentina we felt a sense of relieve (in that generally we felt much safer - 'a weight was lifted...') The Waterfalls - It takes at least 4 hours to visit the falls on the Argentinian side and it is worth it. There is 3 levels: upper, middle, lower - all 3 give a different perspectives to the falls. Getting on a boat and getting under the fall is quite expensive and you do get super wet! We were speechless. The fall is so powerful, noisy and scary! a great moment and the highlight of the trip so far. Not much to say as ... read more

We left Buenos Aires and flew directly to Iguazu Falls. Initally we planned on seeing both the Argentinian and Brazilian side of the falls, however, the Brazilian embassy in SF was nice enough to put Chris on a 30 day waitlist for a visa appointment (despite their being only 1 person in line when he visited). Despite the lack of a 360 degree view of the falls, the Argentinian side was still spectacular. We stayed right in the park (thank you SPG points!!) which meant we pretty much rolled out of bed and into the falls. We spent 2 days exploring both the lower and upper falls and then the 3rd day taking a jet boat trip pretty much right up to the falls themselves, getting thoroughly drenched in the process. On a previous trip, we ... read more

The Iguazu river borders 3 countries – Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. The falls themselves can be viewed from both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides and it is recommended to see them from both to complete the full picture of their wonderment. These are regarded as one of the most amazing falls in the world and I’ve read and heard only Victoria Falls in Africa can rival them. I’ve seen Niagara Falls so I was looking forward to comparing Iguazu with those. US First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt once did and exclaimed 'Poor Niagara!'. First things first, I needed to obtain my visa for Brazil which I applied for at the Brazilian embassy in Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. It was a fairly painless process and took only 24 hours to come through. This is the quickest place to obtain ... read more

South America » Argentina » Misiones » San Ignacio February 2nd 2013

A big storm today was welcome to freshen up everything, but so strong you just don’ want to go outside for 3 hours. After it stopped, I went to ... read more

South America » Argentina » Misiones » San Ignacio February 1st 2013

South America » Argentina » Misiones » San Ignacio January 31st 2013

South America » Argentina » Misiones » Iguazú National Park January 30th 2013

**** A quicker visit of the falls on the Brazilian side, but as beautiful. This time you enjoy more the panoramic view, you have all the falls in front of you - of course not all of them, there are always a couple of hidden ones a few steps way. Less crowded too, which is much appreciated In the afternoon, I’m leaving for San Ignacio a 5 hour bus journey on the way ... read more
