Ah I love it here. Arrived here yesterday. Took a little while to get through Border control but I now have a shiny Argentinian stamp in my passport. I wanted a whole day to see Iguazu falls so for the afternoon I went on a walk to see the three frontiers (point where you can see Argentina, Paraguay and Brazil all seperated by a river). I then went to La Aripuca whice is a set of native buildings. The main attraction is a massive version of an Aripuca, which is a trap the natives used to catch small animals. It took 9 years to find the trees and 1 year to build. I also tried playing an Native harp. Today I ventured out to the falls, which has now replaced Sugar Loaf as Best Thing So ... read more

5 weeks has passed since last blog. Now there are only 3 weeks, 4 exams and a lot of sad goodbyes left. After I came back from the states, I had a serious need to calm down and get some structure in my life again. The first weeks after I came back were mostly spent in school, at the gym and at other random places. One random place was Pacaembu. Since Arsenal at the end of May finished of a season where the word “almost” was describing in most ways, I found out that it was about time I found myself a Brazilian team. My team here in Brazil is now and forever Corinthians. On the 13th of May I joined the “Fiel” (Portuguese for faithful/loyal) at Pacaembu stadium to see Corinthians beat Fluminense 1-0 in ... read more

Saw both sides of BA last Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday we walked from San Telmo to La Boca which is a rough port area with a small well known art district in it, the guide book says to take care if you're not in the main tourist area - trying to be too smart and without a good enough map we found ourselves quite a way from the main tourist area. Got out again in one piece, but it was a bit scary at times, on the upside we walked around and past the Boca Juniors stadium. Wednesday went to the richest part of BA, Recoleta - famous for it's cemetery, the rich like to show their wealth in death as well as in life. As cemeteries go it's impressive and worth a visit. Day 11; can{t find the colon or the apostrophe so i{m just going to use thee}¿¿}}se. shoot. now i can{t find the backspace. anyway; Day 11; last day in punta del diablo. decided to take one last beach day, relaxing never gets old. so, we rented two surf boards and a boogie board. the surf was rough today so it was pretty exhausting just getting out far enough to catch the waves. in the evening, we hopped on a bus for Cabo Polonia. Cabo is a national ecological reserve in uruguay. no cars, electricity, or running water. we had to take a giant death mobile into the park, it was wicked fun. we rode on the roof of this thing as it drove through dunes and forests in the pitch black of night. eventually, it popped ... read more

Ok. So ya. Sorry about the wait on the post just been a busy couple of days. Right now I am a couple miles away from the most amazing water fall(s) I could ever imagine. We are here in the town of Puerto Iguazu- a small dirty town that now that it is in the off season we can tell just gets ran-sacked by tourist in their summer and then they leave and the people are just trying to live normal lives until next summer- we are just 25 minutes away from the nation park and the falls. The park wasnt that bad we saw some neat wild-life and some beautiful landscape and vegatation. But the Falls! Dios Mio!!!!!! (thats what everyone says) they were so amazing. The shear force of all that water is unlike ... read more

Argentina was crying for Sharon and I to come and visit and so here we are!! We left Hostel Natura, Brazil with Carlos as he was going to go and collect a couple of English girls up from the Argentinian side of the falls. I think it was probably easier for us to go with him than if we had done it by public transport as he knew the system really well and we were through both borders in less than 5 minutes and the Argentinian guards showed no interest in our bags or wanting to know what we were doing or where we were going in Argentina!! Despite askign Costas to just drop us off at the bus station and we would walk the the hostel he insisted in dropping us off at our new ... read more

Arrived at Puerto Canoas hostel thanks to Carlos ;) Hostel was very brightly painted with flowers and bird food holders attracting a number of Humming Birds just outside the door to our room with en suite!! The luxury of budget travelling cannot be overestimated ;=) We dropped off our bags had a quick look around the hostel, no communal bar and everyone seeming to keep to themselves so we walked into the town centre which was just a 5 minute from the hostel. The town was like a ghost town. Lots of the shops were closed and no one was around! However, we located a bank and then the supermarket and worked out it was just 55 pence for a large bottle of beer! The rest of that afternoon and the next day we did not ... read more

OK, so I know this update is well over a week due however the computer at the hostel in Buenos Aires was not working so I have not been able to upload any photos and I did not want to keep sending just typed blogs. Anyhow, I will now proceed to try and catch up on on the last 7 days or so!!! So, having spent the morning at the hostel in Foz De Iguazu it was time to leave and cross the border into Puerto Iguazu, Argentina. Carlos kindly agreed to drive us across the border control, our first overland and see us safely to the otherside! OK, so we say goodbye to Hostel Natura and reach the border crossing. Carlos assures us we do not need our bags and simply to bring our passports! ... read more

So this is the first post about our 10 day argentina adventure. I went with 3 friends from CIEE: Rachel, Natalie and Christina. We stayed most of the time in Buenos Aires but we also spent a few days in Puerto Igauzu to see the amazing waterfalls there and that's what this post is about. We got to BA friday April 17 stayed one night in a hostel and left the next afternoon at a 5 pm for a 20 hour overnight bus ride to Igauzu. The bus ride was actually an experience in itself. We got cama (bed) style chairs that were basically like lazy-boys, snacks, dinner, (really bad) wine with dinner, and liquor before bed. We also had a really depressed looking stewardess who placed 3 really depressing movies and who woke the whole ... read more

Iguazu Falls stradles the National Border of Brazil and Argentina and there will always be controversy about which country provides the best view. In our opinion you should see both sides BUT if you only have one day... see it from Argentina. The Falls were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984, and is currently on the list as one of the New Natural Wonders of the World. The Guarani legend says that Iguazu Falls were created when a jealous forest god, enraged by a warrior escaping downriver by canoe with his lover, forced the riverbed to collapse therefore producing the giant falls where both the warrior and girl fell. At the base of the waterfalls the girl turned into a rock and the warrior survived as a tree overlooking his fallen lover. Ahhh.. how ... read more
