Puerto Iguazu I arrived in Puerto Iguazu on Wednesday at 5pm. I happened to book a bed in a party hostel - not quite my scene - which is in fact the largest hostel I have ever seen. It's called the Hostel Inn Iguazu. There are easily 300 people there. It has a large pool, pingpong, fussball, two pool tables, 7 computers, a small soccer field, and who-knows-what-else. That night I joined in on an asado and a buffet followed by a samba show. A bit of seminudity to start off my stay in Iguazu... The following day I decided not to hit the falls because I was waiting for a couple of friends to arrive in Puerto Iguazu. I figured that I would wait to see the falls with them and share in the amazement. ... read more

The waterfalls at Iguazú are absolutely breath-taking and well worth the trip to Puerto Iguazú, a small town with not much else going on. We arrived in the tourist town on the morning of the 25th following a 17 hour bus ride from Buenos Aires and got settled into ´Puerto Canoas´, the residencial we spent 3 nights in. It was a nice little hostel, very clean, friendly staff and a kitchen which allowed us to cook all of our own meals. We visited the falls on our 2nd day and were fortunate to have really nice weather as it rained the entire 3rd day we were there. We paid to take the tourist boat (AR.240 each) in the morning which allowed us to get up close and, in certain areas, underneath the falls - we were ... read more

Day 17 I arrived in Foz Do Iguacu this morning on an overnight bus from Florianopolis, where I was seated next to a kiwi guy, Tony. He was everything I expect of a kiwi guy, easy to get on with, laid back, into sport and generally really genuine. We hit it off almost immediately and had a real good laugh for the first few hours of the bus trip, before he decided to catch up on some sleep. This was my second lengthy bus journey, but didn’t sleep too much, thanks to the slightly erratic driving style of the guy behind the wheel. Every time I felt myself dropping off, matey up front seemed to swerve out and overtake someone or steam around a corner at what I would perceive as slightly too quickly…I’m sure he ... read more

Last time I reported in I had just left a hostel and was on my way to the Terminal de Omnibus (hey, I think it sounds a lot better than plain old bus station) so I could board my bus and make a 16 hour journey north to Iguazu falls. For those who have been wondering if this is really a true version of events; after all, so far I haven't gotten ridiculously drunk and ended up: on a pub crawl with the local underbelly mob (a la Galway); in hospital (a la waterpolo presentation nights); or in a strip club (a la a certain grandmother's wake), all I can say is that I'm working on it... If you are like me, you consider yousrelf reasonably well clued about the world and its sites. It turns ... read more

Puerto Iguazu A 1st class seat on an 18hr bus journey is something I´m seriously starting to get addicted to. The first one was to Puerto Iguazu. I had a seat right at the front of the bus, on my own (there are only three seats per row) and the big fat seat went right back so that it was pretty much flat. We were given blankets and pillows, food and wine. I had my own TV and a couple of films were shown. Not at all boring and very comfortable! I´ve done a few trips now, not all quite so swanky, and I´m discovering that the maximum time humans can be on a bus before falling asleep is roughly 15 minutes. The province of Missiones is way up high Argentina and is very green and ... read more

The day after we visited Iguazu Falls we decided to take a lazy day in which I also wrote my last blog. We lazed by the pool all day and soaked up the sun. Unfortunately I did not prepare myself well enough for this and proceeded to get badly sunburnt. That day as usual it did not feel too bad but the following day unfortunately it popped up nice and red!!! The following morning we packed up the tent and got a lift to the bus station. We then made our way safely and quickly across the border to Argentina (Puerto Iguazu). We knew we were gong to the Argentine side of the falls this day so were in quite a rush!! When we jumped off the bus we were in two minds on whether or ... read more

H: Hello! Apparently I am a little bit naughty and Joe's writings are way outnumbering mine. So I thought I should sit down and tell my side of the Christmas story... Early November sometime we suddenly realised that a familyless Christmas was looming and the only way to survive was to think up some exciting and exotic place to spend it. When we found a pretty hostel near the Iguazú falls in Argentina that had a ping pong table and we didn't have to search anymore. If we didn't have family around, at least we could have a game of our newly traditional Teeny Tiny Tenni Christmas Tourny (a very competitive game of ping pong!). Getting to Puerto Iguazú was one of our longest overland travelling missions yet. Joe finished his last blog at the Salt ... read more

Before we begin: We wrote this nearly a week ago now but have just published it because of our biggest mistake packing for our trip- not bringing a netbook (small laptop). It has become increasingly difficult to find a) a free computer at our hostels long enough to upload photos and b) a computer that is functioning well enough to upload the photos in the first place! So....you´ll have to be patient. I realize most people enjoy the photos more than the text so I don´t want to post blog entries with no photos. We appreciate you guys reading the posts. We put quite a bit of effort into writingpreparing them (as does Ben if you´re following his blog) but we enjoy doing it. Sometimes, it´s just a bit of a wating game when you don´t ... read more

Huge glorious waterfalls. A nice information guide showing us where to cross the railroad on the map. He says, "in english, do you say "rails" or is it "bon"?" We look confused, so he sings quietly to us, "I hear the train a coming, it's rolling round the BON..." Magical ... read more
