Here I am in Puerto Iguazu...just 18 hours north of Buenos Aires, by bus. I know many of you may cringe at the thought of spending 18 hours on a bus but I assure you, this is no Greyhound! This is business or first class all the way...we purchased the cama suite, which is a fully reclining seat, warm and plushs with blankets and pillows. About 1/2 hour into our journey the male "steward" comes by and offers us glasses of whiskey! We accept and soon we are mellow and watching "Ladder 59", one of the 3 movies shown that night. We then recieve a dinner of steak and potatoes and several glasses of wine, topped off with champagne! How awesome...we love the cama suite, and don't know if we can go any lower in ... read more

I´m sitting in an internet cafe on Avenida Tres Fronteras, so called since it leads down towards the confluence of two rivers that mark the borders between Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay. We´re here to see the amazing Iguazu waterfalls. Maybe it´s just my geographical ignorance but I have to admit that before planning my trip to Argentina, I´d never heard of them. The truth is that they are absolutely breathtaking and I would highly recommend them to anyone. Alison´s visited Angel Falls in Venezuela (tallest in South America or world?) and she found Iguazu more impressive. I guess you´ll see the sheer size of them from the photos... We saw them from both the Argentinian and Brazilian sides, which meant that we hopped over to Brazil just for the day. Excellent! Was fun trying to guess ... read more

Well it's been a while since I last wrote and I'm now in sunny Puerto Iguazu. Since my last e-mail, I moved in with Heain, the Korean girl from my class. She had rented an apartment in the city and initially had a friend that she was staying with, but he left and she had a spare bed. The place was pretty small but rent was really cheap and it was really nice to have Heain's company. I finished my four weeks of Spanish classes, so my last two weeks in Buenos Aires were free to venture around town and practise my Spanish on unsuspecting Argentinians. My Spanish continues to improve. However, I've had a couple of embarrassing 'lost in translation' moments where my listeners have been in stitches after I've mistakenly told them "I'm pregnant" ... read more

Hi everyone, It's Sunday and we are in Puerto Iguazú. Home of the famous Iguazú waterfalls. Puerto Iguazú is located in the very northeastern tip of Argentina. We are right at the border of Argentina, Paraguay, and Brazil. And a long way from Ushuaia. We also just past the 1/3 mark for our trip, but we won't dwell on that. We left Buenos Aires on Friday for our 16 hour bus ride. It went quite well and very easy. We even got to see two bad movies, Stepford Wives and Shall We Dance in English. Most foreign films in Argentina and Chile are subtitled rather than dubbed. We arrived in Puerto Iguazu at 11:30 a.m. yesterday and we are now in a sub-tropical climate. The plant life has completely changed and we are very close to ... read more

Day 6 - Night Bus to Iguazu: Despite some initial apprehension about the impending length of our journey, the bus trip to the Puerto Iguazu wasn´t too hard. The time had passed reasonably quickly - the movies shown on the overhead televsion were better than what we had seen on the plane ride from Canada to Argentina. Dina was able to keep herself entertained by speaking with some of the other people on board, in Spanish, while I attempted unsuccessfully to get some sleep. There was a young fellow sitting directly to the right of us, whom Dina spoke to for a while. She later told me that he was from Paraguay - his job was buying/selling items in BA, and transporting items back to his town, near the falls, for resale. Our travel guide (rough ... read more

- Area: The wonders of Iguazú falls - STUNNING. Puerto Iguazú is small but friendly and feels very safe. - People: Not many around. Sterotypical hostel types. - Weather: Boiling hot and very humid. But it hadn´t stormed like in Uruguay so the falls were not at their best. Tue 12th: .... awoke from my deep sleep on the bus at 7am to see everyone else getting off the bus. Bus driver looked relieved he didn´t have to wake me. Dazed and confused, I was grateful for the information woman who gave me lots of info about the national park, waterfall tours and hostels. I had no money and no home so it felt very strange wandering the streets that early with nothing but my rucksack. It was boiling hot even at that time. Found the ... read more
