Posadas - not much to say because there´s not much going on. This is a very small town that - as far we can tell - doesn´t see a lot of tourists. The people however are very friendly and, despite there not being much to do, it has been a really nice place to relax for a few days. We arrived in Posadas by bus (5 hours) from Puerto Iguazú in the afternoon of the 28th. We caught a taxi into town with a couple (Ashley and Katka) from Australia/Czech Republic and ended up spending the evening having dinner and drinks with them. Very friendly people which made for a fun night. We also met a guy from the US (David) who we´ve had dinner with a couple times. Funny how the only English-speaking tourists in ... read more

Oh Posadas. We got tired and just stayed, and stayed... and stayed. For four days. We found a nice inexpensive hostel that was so peaceful, the host apologetically asked Oliver to stop playing his guitar at two in the afternoon because, "guests may be sleeping". We saw "Avatar" and "Paranormal Activity" (in english!) We even got movie popcorn. We walked along the river and tried to go to Paraguay and instead got to see a car disassembled and emptied of a dozen kilos or so of cocaine. Maybe we didnt want to go to Paraguay after all.... read more

Walked to the bus terminal and left, uneventful bus ride, got to Resistencia just short of 7am, freaking cold!!! i planned on staying here but decided to just spend the half day checking out the sights then move on to Posadas. Went around to look for the left luggage at the terminal but could not find it, asked some helper dude and pointed me to a small booth next to the women's toilet, it was a ticket booth office doubling as luggage storage as well.Got out and loooke for the bus to town, 110, I asked the driver to let me off the center. then before i get off I asked hime to show me where to wait for a bus back to the terminal. Resistencia is famous for its Sculptures and at 25 de Mayo ... read more

Saturday 14th March 2009 We had a well deserved lie in today! Was great! Decided to visit Evita´s grave. On the way we found a park full of 300 year old trees, how something can survive so long in Buenos Aires is beyond us!!!! They are now protected and have huge, twisting root making great photos (and somewhere a bit more private for the tramps to poo!). The cemetery where Evita´s grave is was full of massive family tombs, with the coffins on display you could almost touch them (a little creepy!). In comparison Evita´s family tomb was very modest but had the most visitors. After a few hours there we returned to the hostel for a nap before the party (which started at 1am, the clocks went back that night too making it seem even ... read more

I arrived very early in Posadas (by bus), so I went to town and sat on the esplanade along the river and watched the sun rise over Paraguay. Paraguay is just on the other side of the river (only 1km away). It is linked to Posadas, Argentina by a bridge. The sunrise was magnificant. Slowly, around 8am, the town began to awake, and people started to jog along the esplanade. It was Friday, and yet Posadas had a real holiday feel to it. It was very hot but nice and windy. There were many locals sitting around relaxing. Posadas doesn´t have much to offer in the way of tourism. Rather, it is an access point to the Jesuits Mission which I will see tomorrow. The Jesuit Missions were in Brazil, Paraguy, Argentina and 1 in Uruguay. ... read more

From the ´almost´ tropical forest of Iguazu, on an EXTREMELY tropical bus, we headed for Posadas. Much earlier than anticipated (we thought we wouldn´t get this till Bolivia) we experienced our first bus breakdown. As we waited on the roadside in the sun (same temperature as the bus) we watched the many mechanics (passengers!) help out and get the bus going again. Not sure what they did but we made it the rest of the way, The only reason we picked to go to this town was to see the Jesuit Missons but it´s actually a lovely town to stay in in it´s own right. It sits on the Parana River (other side reaching Paraguay) and has a mediterranean feel (although I think we´re going to get repetitive in that phrase) to it. Night time the ... read more

Today could have been our most daunting prospect of the trip however with the hotel sorted we could relax and enjoy the day in Posadas. After a leisurely breakfast we wander into the square where some old fella tells us about a little known "other" square where people sit and sip their Mate. Oh at this point I realise I haven't described what Mate is. Well basically it's a herbal concoction that everyone seems to drink not only in Argentina but Paraguay as well. Each person has a pot with the leaves in and a flask of hot water which is added throughout the day. The drink is drunk through a metal perforated straw and most important thing of all is that you can't get this in a restaurant. So either buy some yourself or hope ... read more

Posadas isn't a large town so we walk to our hotel (City Hotel) past the hacking bum on the corner of the street (easy to find) and find ourselves smack bang in the middle of town. We check in to the slighty musty and small but clean room and then wander into the square that lies on the hotel doorstep. We also pick up maps of the city and information about the Jesuit ruins that we plan to see the next day. Then we wait for the arrival of Sol a Ugandian/Canadian/American friend of the girls. He is louder than life and due to give us one or two laughs as he joins us for the remainder of the trip. To celebrate we go to a rather fancy looking bar just off the main plaza and ... read more

The River Parana touches the shores of Argentina, Paraguay and Brasil. The international bridge at Posadas spans the distance between Argentina and Paraguay. Shopping is said to be much cheaper on the Paraguayan side. Posadas on the Argentinian side is a stopping place before travelling the the final 316 km to Iguazu Falls. Arriving on the much delayed El Gran Capitan at 05:00 I took a chance and a taxi to THe Liberatador Hotel on San Lorenzo. Its comfy, clean, wellsituated, has a restaurant , WiFi, and a table and chairs in the room. All for 102 pesos. Slept late. Dressed for the airconditioned temperature. Had to come back and change once I reached street level. The river lies north and is depicted on the north side of the page. Walked to the square looking for ... read more
