I flew into Posadas from Buenos Aires. The main reason for coming here was so that I could then get the bus to go and see the Jesuit and Guarani ruins in San Ignacio Mini and then head on to the waterfalls (or cataratas as they call them here) at Puerto Iguazu. Posadas is the provincial capital of Misiones which is the most North Eastern province. I have only attached two piccies to give you a flavour of the place.... read more

Well we took a bus 5 hours west of Puerto Iguazu to a place called Posadas... theres really nothing to do here, but an hour and a half away are some Jesuit ruins... really doesnt interest me that much, but it was the way I was heading anyways so I thought I would check it out. On the bus some sort of police...or military came on with a dog and took the 3 people I was travelling with off the bus and told them they could smell marijuana on them...(untrue) and tried to get them to confess to having some, they didnt obviously. The hostel we are in right now is shit, the room has 4 beds but barely has room for one, its boiling hot and Im guessing I will wake up tommorow morning ... read more

Woke up and checked out of the hotel, we then walked down to the small beach by the river to sunbathe. There is only 1 beach, and it´s a private affair, so we paid our 2 pesos and sat in sun loungers listening to the barman pumping out the beatles and Bob Marley! We had the place to ourselves, and it was really hot. After 2 hours sitting in the same position, I realised we were both incredibly burnt. Fortunately my burns were grouped around my shoulders and chest, exaclty where my ruck sack would be in a matter of hours, which was going to make the trip to Rosario particularly enjoyable.... read more

As it was Easter Sunday there was very little open in town, so we went to the one open supermarket and bought ourselves some breakfast to eat on some grass. Spent the day reading and sunbathing on a patch of grass by the river, and then went for a slap up meal at the pizza and pasta restaurant by the river, followed by ice cream in town.... read more

Last day in Posadas. Once we packed all of our stuff, we were treated to a last meal with Aida and Maria, not sure what happened to the other 2 sisters, but at least the hot one was there! We were told all about how great Iguazu falls are, and were to go and what to do next. Really excited about getting to Iguazu and seeing what all the fuss is about. Got a taxi at 12:30 to take us to Posadas station for our 1:30am coach. Spent the entire journey bloody freezing, as I decided to wear shorts and flip flops on the coach, they had the air con on full so it was like a freezer. Really glad we booked tickets, as the bus stopped every half an hour to pick up more people ... read more

Last day at the park! Woke up early, and both felt pretty rough from the night before, didn´t realise how many we had put away, and felt pretty sick. Reynaldo found it funny that I smelt of booze, and I was wondering whether he had some horrific jobs for us today or if he was going to be nice. It turned out to be the latter, and although we started off helping shift thousands of old polythne bags from one side of the barn to the other (Many creepy crawlies and mice), once we had done that for half an hour, we spent the rest of the time sat in the shade resting. The others spent ages preparing an enourmous barbeque for our last day (A parilla with mountains of meat), we all sat together ... read more

Thursday meat day today, and it was Anna and I who went with Reynaldo to get the food from the supermarket. We got to Reynaldo´s at 10, and all shared a mate in the truck on the way. Once we got to the park, we met Dan and started unloading the van which had even more than usual rotting vegetables which was lovely. We all seemed to be pretty used to cutting the meat, the smell, and the hundreds of flies, but Anna and I were glad this was our last time. Had our leaving party at Veronica´s house with all the other volunteers, the majority of who we had never even met! Really got on well with Barney, Charlie and James, but most of the others seemd very young and dull. Had food and ... read more

Got up especially early to make it to the park today, but as Reynaldo had the day off we spent the entire day sat down in the shade with absolutey nothing to do. Left at 2, had a siesta and a nice meal. We then decided to arranged a tango lesson for 10pm. We were both obviously worried about how crap we´d be compared to all the other natural Argentinians, so decided we´d book a private lesson to get the most out of the 1 class. As I had left my trainers on the coach from Buenos Aires, I had a choice of my gigantic hiking boots or flip flops. I opted for the boots, which made Anna increasingly nervous about how injured she could be left. The lesson was absolutely fantastic, the teachers were a ... read more

Meat day. It was Dan´s turn to go with Reynaldo to the supermarket, but due to miss communication, Reynaldo was a no show. Dan ended up waiting for hours in the blisstering heat and having to get the bus into work and wasn´t happy in the slightest. Reynaldo arrived in a panick with a truck full of birds. He mentioned something about illegal trafficking, whether or not he was the culprit or the savior is still in question. We unloaded al the birds which included parrots, a toucan and dozens of small birds in filthy cages. We gave them all clean water, and fortunately they all survived the apparent 200 mile trip in the back of his truck. We thought this might mean we had no meat today, but Reynaldo went off to collect the rotting ... read more
