Geo: -31.4, -64.5167We hadn't done anything fun for days and were sick of ourselves. So when the taxi came we asked him what any stupid foreigner would: Is there a golf course around here? What's the guy gonna say? Yea, there's one just around the corner? Not when he can take us to one waaaaaay out in the boonies. It was beautiful--Nicklaus designed--but after driving 50 miles it's-- what else?--closed. So now what do we do? We already owe this guy an arm and a leg for getting us out this far. Do we have him take us back into town and forget the golf, or do we drive another 10 km (he claims) to a different course and then take a bus back to town because we'll be too broke to hire another taxi? Oh yes, ... read more

Day 3 of eight months in Argentina I am typing this on the top bunk while Finn and Leah bat around a balloon. The home schooling is going very well. Adam is out looking for jobs so I have been exploring with the kids. They don't last long in the heat and noise of the big city. But today we discovered the port area, a bunch of old warehouses that have been redeveloped and now it is a very upmarket area of restaurants and luxury high rise apartments. Lots of places to wander without worrying about getting run over. The flight was fantastic, valium worked ok - I was playing quiddler in the middle of the night with the kids. We are in a bunk room with a very high ceiling, two bunks and a cupboard. ... read more

Geo: -31.4, -64.5167Don't eat at the restaurant Ambrogioff in Carlos Paz. It's beautiful with a lovely view, but it's overpriced and has lousy food. My grilled chicken was not edible--dry and stringy on a bed of mushy overcooked vegetables. It was just before quiting for siesta and this was obviously something left warming in the oven a couple hours too long. So they carried it away and asked if I wanted to order something else.OK. I ordered raviolis with four cheese sauce. Even under a heat lamp I figured it'd be okay.It came to me with thick gooey white slop over some wrinkled noodles microwaved dry and tough where they weren't embedded.Story is, we ended up paying for all three entres. Bob had okay pork chops. We even paid extra for the butter for Bob's bread ... read more

After a few days in Salta, I headed down to Cordoba before heading back to Santiago. I met some cool people in Cordoba and we basically hung out the whole time; two people from Argentina, one from Ireland and one from Mexico. One day we went to a town called "Villa Carlos Paz" that was nice and had a river running through it. Other than that we just kicked back, cooked, hung out by the little pool at the hostel and talked. ... read more

Nous y avons passés 4 ... read more

As I arrived to Salta I was relieved to be out of high elevation and dusty roads. I was welcomed to a beautiful city. Very european, with large parks everywhere, a large central plaza with plenty of trees. Surrounded by street cafes and museums. Around 450,000 people the city of Salta is quite compact. One can easily walk around the flat city. I chose to walk up the 1000 steps of a hill overlooking the city opposed to riding the gondola that would take you to the same place for a few pesos. The weather was about perfect 20 -27 celsius all day only cooled down slightly at night. The culture was very different than I was accustomed to, with the stores and restaurants cloosing from 1-5 ish everyday for siesta time. The city then ... read more

We arrived in Cordoba on the morning of the 25th via the 11.5 hour overnight bus. The bus ride was good, clean and actually left on time. We were happy to have booked our tickets in advance so were able to get the panoramic seats in the front and therefore did not have anyone reclining on us. We were also nicely situated far away from the toilet which is always a luxury! (Recommendation: Flecha Bus). We were booked into ´Cordoba Hostel´ prior to our arrival and happy that our reservation was secured. Our room was nice with a private bathroom and balcony over-looking the courtyard and pool (which is amazingly smaller than the photograph on the website depicts). The room was a little pricey at AR.100/2ppl/night (Argentinian Pesos: USD = approx. 1: 3.8). We have begun ... read more

So... After a 4 hr bus ride, 3 hr ferry, 2 taxi rides and an overnight bus we made it to Cordoba! We arrived at about 7am (an hour earlier than expected) so you can imagine that finding a hostel at that time in the morning was no easy task! We ended up staying in a mosquito/cockroach infested room which stank of damp with a building site next to us! At least we got early wake up calls from the neumatic drills drilling through the wall next to our ears at 8am every day! On the plus side ....The city is beautiful, filled with handy craft markets, shopping malls and lots of students (therefore cheap drinks / food!!) and is much more relaxing than Buenos Aires. We promptly booked up a horse riding excursion in the ... read more

Cordobese Amigos After our overnight bus to Cordoba, which was not Royal Suite, and not as comfortable as our ride to Mendoza, we arrived first thing in the morning to Cordoba. Our initial plans were to stay as long as possible in Mendoza before heading back to Buenos Aires for our flight to the Northern Hemisphere. Instead, we returned to Cordoba to see our new friends, Jenny and Lucas. In total, our Argentine adventure included Buenos Aires to Cordoba to Mendoza and eventually back to Mendoza to Cordoba to Buenos Aires. We certainly were not original in our itinerary, but thought we would use the opportunity to spend some more time with all of our new South American friends. Thankfully Lucas does not drink and Jenny does not drink much, so what we knew we ... read more

Hola Amigos! This blog is a little late (I stayed in Córdoba last week!), so I apologise for that, but the sentiment is there! So, from Puerto Iguazú, which I believe is where we left off...I took a bus to Córdoba. I left at 13.15 and arrive in Córdoba at midday. That is one long bus journey! But I got a flat bed, champagne, sweets, films, and a massive fleecey pillow, so it was actually pretty good. The thing with travelling on your own is that you always meet people in the most unexpected places sometimes. Only sometimes, normally you meet them in a hostel bar if I´m being honest! But I met a Canadian girl in the queue for a taxi, and she had no hostel booked so decided to come to the one I ... read more
