So, i guess i have been bad with updates and stuff, so i have devised a nice idea...i will keep a travel blogg...yup this is it...my travel blog. there are two reasons for this, a i can share photos more easily, and be whenever i put out an update, and i still dont promise it will be more freuquent than once a month or once in six weeks, you guys will automatically get an update and can see. Though this helps me from sending multiple emails to everyone about where i am and what i a have done, chatty one on one emails are still welcome...though again, i dont promise a quick reply...grin. mainly cos i am camping and hiking for the next few months and well....getting to the internet in the middle of the bush ... read more

Obwohl ich ... read more

No more than 15 minutes away from Buenos Aires, there is that little town called Tigre, which half of it is built on the Delta. This part is only accessible by boat and there is about 4000 people living there. This does not include all the porteños (the standard nickname for a resident of Buenos Aires) who own a house ther and come for the week-end. Its a bit like the knok-le-Zout for the Brusselers :-) Its a crazy labyrinthe of 'waterroads´ and the inhabited part is no bigger than 1/100 of the entire Delta. All the rest is virgin and totally isolated although so close from BsAs. I have been told by a guide we met that the Delta´s surface is about a third of Belgium. Its a lovely place except that between 3 and ... read more

so let´s go camping someone said. all right. far from a well-oiled trip, we all either slept in by accident, forgot sleeping bags, or didn´t bring the bug spray. nine people total, two tiny tents, and nine chorizos (sausages) for dinner... we were doing it all wrong. just the way we like it though. by the time gordo, aye and i got to the campground after taking a bus through the city, a train through the suburbs and a boat up the river we were expecting a roaring fire and a merry party eager for us to join. quite the opposite--there they were sitting inside this building playing cards and eating apples. nothing merry in this bunch! they had been there for hours, ¨spend some time outside and you´ll see why¨graham said. ¨the mosquitos are like ... read more

When the weather is good, Porteños flock to Tigre. Usually we join them by flocking to the Fruit Market area where the hoardes gather to buy handicrafts, fruit and veg. This time we decided to eschew the masses and head on a walking tour of historic Tigre. The architecture around the back streets was nice and there was hardly a soul in sight. There's a monument marking the spot where the "English Invasion" was repelled and it's a beautiful spot with far less people to spoil the view. The new cultural centre is taking place but I doubt it will be open during our time in BA. Shame as I'd love to have the opportunity to at least walk around the gardens.... read more

Hello Again, just ot let you know that the good news is that i now have pictures. Firstly below is Plaza Mayo (pronouced in Argentina "Platha Ma-show"). It is Mayo by the way although you may see me call it Mayor in some places The big white obelisk is the piramide de mayo. a small obelisk built to mark the first aniversary of BA´s independence from spain. On thursdays at 3;30pm the madres de la plaza march around the square in their unrelenting campaign for a full account of dirty war attrocities. (See the Dirty War in Argentine history) Here also is me at the Obelisk and the pink building behind is the parlimentary building. It is pink becasue there used to be two parties (red & white) so pink was the outcome. Also here are ... read more

Sergio, Joaquín, and I decided to visit one of the areas considered the favorite natural playground for “Porteños” wanting to get away from the glass-and-concrete surroundings of Buenos Aires during the weekends. “El Tigre” (or The Tiger, in English) is the destination and had been highly recommended by our various book guides and also by at least one of the many taxi drivers that had volunteered information to us. Our point of departure was Retiro Station, just a quick walk across Plaza San Martin (three city blocks from the Marriott). The place was very busy with travelers and commuters coming and going. Some of them were carrying heavy luggage in tow; some others just whatever was needed for the day. We quickly located a ticket window and paid for our fare. The attendant pointed us to ... read more

So, Jane´s Birthday is coming up and we´re now on our way to Tigre. It´s only 30k´s outside of Buenos Aires, and is the gateway to all of the Delta, which is only accessible by boat. Tigre itself, doesn´t have any suitable accommodation for this auspicious occasion. So, after several hours of conversations in the tourist office, and several pained Spanglish telephone conversations - we are on our way... An hour on the boat, passing loads of beautiful, expensive riverside properties and we´re soon arriving at ALPENHAUS, our Austrian themed Argentinian retreat for the next two days (obvious Birthday choice). We are greeted by Susan, who was dressed in her full traditional Austrian costume - a sight we weren´t really prepared for! Our room is very comfortable, the pool is excellent, the beer is cold and ... read more
