Beaumaris Castle

This was to be Edward's last and greatest castle. However, a rebellion in Scotland, and long planned war with France, altered his priorities and work ceased, leaving it something of a ragged shell. The picture we present to you was taken in the rain; we quickly returned to a dry car afterwards. One last note about Edward. This man's motor never stopped running. He raced from one war to the next all the while haranguing his Parliament for more money. He was on his death bed when an uprising occurred in Scotland. So determined was Edward that he began travel to Scotland to personally lead a suppression, but expired on the journey.

Made what Bird estimates to be our second longest drive yesterday (four hours in all including Costco) traveling from Stratford to Conwy in North Wales. Prime sights for us are medieval castles constructed by Edward I to subjugate the Welch, although there are other attractions, including a Roman Fort on the Irish Sea.
