Crossed the Irminger Basin where depths exceed 9800 feet. Very windy (81 mph) with rough seas (21’ waves) today. Several in the group didn't feel well today. Too much rocking 'n rolling on the high seas. Most of us went and saw "Angels & Demons" - excellent movie. No northern lights today. ... read more

Welcome to my blog. This trip I will try to keep you up to date. On holidays I usually get up and go and by the time the day is over I am too tired to think about keyboards and uploading photos. But this adventure will provide for some time to quietly do this along the way. My photos will be good and hopefully get better along the way. The journey starts with a short trip to Brisbane on 2.10.2009 to see 2 of my kids, my Mum and some close friends and Anzac, a very special dog. Seven October is departure day and I fly to London via Dubai. I'm staying with David and Betty Hall at Wits End for a day or two to recover then it is down to "Bundeena" with Skipper Ian ... read more

Up around 9 a.m. We were in the North Atlantic and the seas were pretty rough - lots of rocking & rolling. Roxie not feeling well again so she took some Dramamine and rested. I went to breakfast with Judy & Diana and then took my computer to the Explorer Lounge and worked on my logs. As we move closer to land, the seas seem to be calming down. We’re all at the art auction now which should start in a few minutes. Nothing for me today. The frozen marguerites are wonderful so I just ordered one as we wait for the auction to begin. If you’re interested in buying art, the place to do it is on the ships at sea. They have all the known and unknown artists and the prices are typically ½ ... read more

Slept until 9:30 a.m. again - the rocking motion of the ship is wonderful for sleeping well. Then I went for a seaweed wrap and massage. While I was wrapped up like a cocoon I got a foot/ankle (trying to help the swelling) and scalp massage. She used frangipani oil on my scalp so I got that service for free - usually has a price all its own. After I showered got a back massage and I felt better for the rest of the day. Read a while and saw “The Proposal” with Sandra Bullock. Absolutely the funniest movie I have seen in a long time. I would recommend to everyone. Formal night for dinner. ... read more

Judy, Roxie and I met with the “future cruise” planner and pre-booked additional cruises which allows us to put less down and receive ship board credit. Went to a 75% off sale - what a mad house. Stood in line longer to pay than it did to find items I wanted. Worked on my log and at then went to the final art auction. Didn’t buy anything this time. Tonight’s formal night so have to dress up a little more. ... read more

Slept till 10 a.m. Could not believe it. Roxie got up went to breakfast, came back and I was still sleeping so she went roaming the ship. I never heard anything until my phone rang at 10. I later found out it was Judy. We attended a session in the spa on “Secrets to a Flatter Stomach.” I doubt I’ll ever see that again, but it was interesting and I learned a few things. Went to the art show today with Judy. Bought 2 very unique “Wyland’s” - they are painted on bamboo and I got them for ½ what they are on land. One is penguins and the other is koala bears. Stephanie, you can’t have these. Also, I won a picture of a whale jumping out of the water. Went to dinner and the ... read more

Geo: 42.5075, 1.5218Annoying new Aussie girls in the room last night ... they showed up around 1 AM, and made a huge racket unpacking and getting ready for bed. The night receptionist even came up, asking them to be quiet because they were disturbing the other sleeping guests in the room, to which they replied "They're not sleeping, they're talking to us!" Uh ... most were either sleeping, or trying to sleep, until you came in ... The funny thing is they were nice enough, but just clueless - loud, obnoxious, and a little bit ignorant - "So what's there to do in Barcelona? We heard it was boring and there's nothing to do here but lie on the beach." What??? It's one of the most dynamic cities in the world!!!Had a difficult time sleeping, as ... read more

Queen Mary 2 Cruise Sat 29th August we boarded the QM2 in Southampton with our backpacks with clothes for summer, winter and of course ballroom attire! After having high expectations of the cruise we were not disappointed. During the day we attended art lectures, headed to the on board planetarium, partaking in RADA workshops and watching there Romeo and Juliet production, jogging round the running track , gyming, swimming or practicing for our starring role singing in the National Symphony Orchestra choir. Note - Jo has musical talent, I do not! Therefore Jo also entered the talent competition which surprisingly had no judges. The hardest choice to make was were to eat every night as we were spoilt for choice with the amount of restaranuts on board, both of us agreed that we had the ... read more
