Queen Mary 2 Cruise

Sat 29th August we boarded the QM2 in Southampton with our backpacks with clothes for summer, winter and of course ballroom attire!

After having high expectations of the cruise we were not disappointed. During the day we attended art lectures, headed to the on board planetarium, partaking in RADA workshops and watching there Romeo and Juliet production, jogging round the running track , gyming, swimming or practicing for our starring role singing in the National Symphony Orchestra choir. Note - Jo has musical talent, I do not! Therefore Jo also entered the talent competition which surprisingly had no judges.

The hardest choice to make was were to eat every night as we were spoilt for choice with the amount of restaranuts on board, both of us agreed that we had the best beef and lamb that we have ever tasted. We both wished that we could store the food away and feed ourselves through the next 3 months of rice and beans.

The on board entertainment was first class, from the on board dancers and signers to the Symphony orchestra. We managed to pack clothes for the Ascot night and black and white ball...The majority of these clothes are now with the home less in New York.

And to start our backpacking budget of in true style Jo spontaneously brought a painting at the on board art auction.

WHAT ENTERTAINMENT CAN I EXPECT ON THE MED. CRUISE LEAVING S'H'N 19 SEPTEMBER 2010.
I am booked in a single, inside cabin - D4/6155. Now, I intend to enjoy myself on this cruise! Can I join in everything? Can I go everywhere? Or, due to my lowly accommodation status will I find that I am curtailed in any respect? I would appreciate it if you could let me have some idea of the entertainment/s one can expect to enjoy on this cruise. I look forward to your response. J Slade-Baker (Miss)

QM2
Hello Slade My apolagies for the delay.. After the QM2 cruise, NY, Costa Rica and then Sotuh America & then the UK we came back to NZ where we now live so only just settled back in. We didnt know what to expect on the cruise and just like you we had a lowly cabin, well we booked only 2 weeks before the sialing date so we were not sure what we actually had got. So the only thing you cannot do is dining in the Princess or Queen Grill. + one back Spar pool on quarter assigned for these classes only We are both dancers and love the arts so we wanted to see some good entertainment and We were NOT dissapponited. We went on a Princess cruise after Bolivia in Dec just gone and though great .. My partner would agree not a touch ont he QM2. SO.. Actiivities and entertainment: (What we did more so than on the whole ship-- but we tried) OPEN to ALL Cabin levels > Art Lexctures on Dali,. Ruben etc - Very informative and well presented > Art Auction with some very cheap works - $1 opening bids > Great Shakspear production by RADA & workshops that we joined in > Onboard Planitarium/Cinema > Britania class (our level) was fantastic food and dining area amazing. > On board gym & Spa (spa extra charge) > Nice running track around deck - 3 laps = 1 mile > Dances class > Watercolour classes > Science lectires > Movie directors > We joined in as the choir for the National Symphony Orchestra of London... Sang along and even in the news letter > So many other things I cant remember We did fear .. Especially as starting backpacking and going on board with backpacks rather than 5 piece luggage set. but some really ncie people on there and on a little pretention and I suppose if you want that then you can go and pay the Queens or Princess level proces :) Hope this helps but we are deffinatly lookibng at doing another cruise with Cunard.. Perhpas a longer option.. Good luck with your travels and any other questions drop me a mail on havanamatt@hotmail.com If any Questions about dress Jo myu partner would be happy to help out as we were so unsure of what to expect. All the best Matthew McCarthy
