Entry 2 About one month has gone by since my last entry. Not the most exciting month. Mixed weather, few sick crew members, a lot of complaining. The usual. We sailed for thirty days before spotting land. We anchored on easter, and after seeing all of the flowers, Leon named the area Florida, from the Spanish term "Pascua florida" or flowery easter. Pretty creative guy, eh? We spent the day mapping out the area, searching for supplies, and searching for the fountain of youth. I don't get it, is it supposed to be just a stream, or is there a marble fountain that magicly was place there. Probably just a stream. Hopefully there will be so many false alarms that Leon will just stop looking. Don't blame me, a magical fountain that makes you live eternally ... read more

When I signed up for this trip across the Earth and looked at the flight over, I thought to myself, “Eh… 31 hours, no big deal.” After all, I’ve flown back and forth to Thailand before, how bad could it be? How long could it really feel like? Surely it couldn’t be unbearable for me, a weathered traveler, to handle. However, sitting now in a jumbo jet flying over… well to tell you the truth I don’t know where I am flying over right now, but I cant help but wonder if maybe I asked the flight attendant nicely, she may just allow me to use the cargo hold to jump out and end this suffering that appears to be endless. 21 hours on one plane! It’s inhumane, inconsiderate, and just plane mean folks. I am ... read more

Well here we are on another working trip abroad, this time on the beautiful island known as Ascension Island, which is an RAF base here in the South Atlantic ocean. Working on a refurbishement of an Officers Mess, early starts, which is good as it is a very warm location, which is something i have never done before always like working in the cold not the heat!!! First Saturday afternoon, we got taken in the company minibus to an amazing bay at the north of the Island, called funny enough English Bay, beautiful clear blue water, great snorkeling, very hot though, could only manage about an hour then had to cover up, still very enjoyable and thanks to Kevin for taking us up there! Our first Sunday which is a day off yeah, me and another ... read more

Her Majesty, Queen Victoria Some time in the spring of 2009, on a return flight from Seattle, my husband Bob and I came upon a USA for Today newspaper with a full-page advertisement for an amazing cruise on the newest Cunard Line ship. The Queen Victoria was going to make her maiden voyage through the Panama Canal, leaving New York City on January 12, 2010, traversing the Carribbean Sea, passing through the Canal, and traveling all the way up the western USA coast to arrive in San Francisco on January 27. And the price was 2 for 1----we just couldn't say "no"! "New York, New York!" We blew (rather....flew) into town on Thursday afternoon January 7, 2010. New York City is all the song "New York, New York!" says and more. Our five-night stay was ... read more

I don’t think either of can say enough about how wonderful our transatlantic trip has been. We were shown to our state room where our bags had been deposited. There we found a half bottle of champagne and a tray of canapés, courtesy of our wonderful travel agent Joan. Have just eaten, we left it for later and went to explore the ship. There were 14 floors in all, our room being on the 6th. We went up to the very top to get a view of the surrounding area joining the other passengers in the embarkation celebration. Alllllll Aboooooooard the horns sounded and echoed into the nothingness surrounding us. It was 6pm. We both called our families to say goodbye and passing under the bridge we headed toward open sea. Afterward we went back to ... read more

Fairly strong winds and surf through the night. I was rocked to sleep and enjoyed the movement of the ship. Some of the group did have trouble sleeping due to the motion. Went to bingo today - no luck, but Miche was a winner. ... read more
