Geo: 18.405, -64.6744We stayed at the Sugar Mill Hotel in Little Apple Bay, Tortola for 3 days. It was a nice relaxing stay. On our second day, Monday, we took a taxi to Road Town to check that out. It is the most populated city in the BVI, and is their center for commerce and government. It was worth a visit but you don't need to spend much time there. On Tuesday, we took a taxi to Mount Sage National Park. Mount Sage is the highest point in The Virgin Islands with an elevation of 1716 feet. We took a 3 mile hike through the park and were the only ones on the trail. There were a couple of fantastic views.Tuesday was also a full moon, so we planned to go to the Full Moon Party at ... read more

Geo: 18.3995, -64.7005We said our goodbyes to the Happy Time crew, Bryan and Ava, and to our extended McCalla crew. Sheila and I took the ferry from Jost Van Dyke to West End, Tortola. Happy Time left us to carry the kids back to St. Thomas to catch their flights back to the real world.Everyone had a fantastic time on our sailing trip, and it was largely due to our incredible crew, Bryan and Ava. They are awesome people, and we had a great time hanging out with them. When you are ready to book your chartered cruise around the BVIs, contact me and I will give you their info.Sheila and I are staying for a few days at the Sugar Mill Hotel in Tortola, and then four days at the Rosewood in Virgin Gorda before ... read more

Geo: 18.2866, -65.6363We stayed in Great Harbour JVD, on our last night in the British Virgin Islands. Visited Foxy's one last time for a delicious Roti, and then we were off the next morning, stopping in Culebra, Spanish Virgin Islands, for two days, with a final destination of mainland Puerto Rico. There were large beds of seaweed on our trip to Culebra. Enough so that it all bunched up in our prop. As we were motoring, we noticed that our speed was diminishing. At times we slow down because of current but this was too much! We drifted to a stop, and shifted the boat back and forth from reverse to neutral. Clumps and clumps of seaweed ejected from the prop. After a few minutes we appeared to be free of seaweed. We put the boat ... read more

Geo: 18.4428, -64.7503We left Great Camanoe Island and headed to Jost Van Dyke for our last night on Happy Times. Our first stop on Jost Van Dyke was along a little island/beach for some snorkeling. Then, we headed to Great Harbour and grabbed a mooring pendant. After lunch, we went ashore to visit The Soggy Dollar Bar and Ivan's Bar and Grill. We hung out on shore until 5:30 and then returned to the boat. After showers and our last dinner aboard, we dinghied to Foxy's Bar for some evening cocktails and drinking games.... read more

Geo: 18.4833, -64.5333We had a terrific sail from Anegada Island back towards Tortola. There was a stead 15 knot wind that enabled us to average 4.5 to 5 knots most of the way.Around noon, we tied to a mooring pendant on Great Dog Island and had lunch. Then, we dinghied to a rock outcropping, where we climbed up about 20' and jumped off into the water...good times. After that little excursion, we sailed on to Great Camanoe Island, into a secluded cove (only one other boat), and dropped anchor for the evening. We had a great time watching the pelicans dive into the water after fish, taking a little hike on shore, and relaxing on the boat.... read more

Geo: 18.7266, -64.3727We pulled up anchor off of Prickly Pear Island and headed off on the 12 mile sail to Anegada Island. Anegada is 13 miles long, with the highest point having an elevation of 26'. So, this was the first leg of the trip where we set out in the open water without being able to see land toward our destination. But, that was for a very short period of time. The visibility was great, as it has been the entire trip, but there were only light winds. So. We ended up motor sailing the entire way. We had a fishing line dragging behind the boat with a little popper lure bouncing along the surface. About 8 miles into the crossing, Sheila asked our captain how we will know if a fish hits the lure ... read more

Geo: 18.4835, -64.4025This morning, we woke to find a bunch of barracudas swimming around "Happy Times" as we ate breakfast. We then left Cooper Island and made our way to the Baths at Virgin Gorda. We stayed there until noon, had lunch on the boat, and then headed on to Prickly Pear Island where we dropped anchor in a sparsely populated cove for the evening. Geo: 18.3667, -64.5This morning we snorkled in the caves before leaving our mooring pendant and heading out. We made our way to Peter Island where we dinghied ashore to visit Dead Man's Bar at the Peter Island Resort.Peter Island is across a channel from Dead Chest Island. Dead Chest Island is the island mentioned in Robert Lewis Stevenson's "Treasure Island"..."Fifteen men on the dead mans' chest, Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum". Legend has it that the Pirates drowned trying to swim across the channel to Peter Island. From there, we sailed on to Cooper Island....and the Rum Bar. After happy hour, we returned to the boat for dinner and a relaxing evening with Sean, Sarah, and Captain Bryan playing guitars.... read more

Geo: 18.4337, -64.6288Cast off of the mooring pendant at St. John's this morning. We had to stop by West End, Tortola for the boat to clear customs. After a short stop for shopping, we then went to Norman Island for snorkeling. After dinner on the boat, we took the dinghy to "Willy T's" bar. It is a converted 80' schooner that probably should have been allowed to sink...ha ha. It was a lot of fun, but I am glad we had our Hep C shots.... read more
