My first month in Sydney I hated it! Mainly I was just frustrated that I couldn’t find a job. Then I realized that’s just the way life is in a big city and once I found my niche I began to LOVE it! I started attending St. Paul’s, a Lutheran church in the city, and met heaps of people my age who were fun and helpful (I ended up living with many of them for short periods of time) and best of all they were actual aussies unlike the friends I made in New Zealand who were mostly travellers. I worked in telemarketing, at Subway, at Oporto (a fast food chicken place), at Donut Express (classy, I know), I house-sat, I even counted ballots for the New South Wales election. And I made good money at ... read more

Horsnell Gully was a real surprise! It is located near Magill in the foothills of Adelaide so very close to my work. There was some ruins of the Horsnell buildings at the start and then the walk starts with a stroll through European trees. They were loosing their leaves when we were there. We scrambled up the creek and up the face of a waterfall to get to the top of the hill. Good views. Saw large Mouse spiders walking around. They usually live underground and the male goes walking at only one time of the year. The walk goes down on a wide track and then around past the quarry before returning to the car park. Good walk :-) Map of Adelaide hills... read more

A warning to the reader: At times the content of my enteries may contain more than 'check-the-box' travel stories. To your dismay, it is entirely possible that you will be exposed to the thoughts and emotions (and general streams of consciousness) I experience on my little journey. Whilst, I hope that you will often find it to be entertaining, uplifting, inspiring, witting, funny, heart warming or just a little sad, I very much intend to use this as a resource to look back upon, and see just how far I manage to go physically and personally. So please just do as most people often do, and close your minds when you feel uncomfortable about getting to know the way I sometimes work...... With that little caveat out of the way, it's time to see where I am at. Well, I ... read more

If you are a dolphin lover go to Monkey Mia, you don't need to be able to swim as the dolphins come into the beach usually about three times a day. It is supervised but everybody gets to stand there while many dolphins come swimming around, it's a lovely experience and you can really connect with them. West Australia has beautiful sunshine as well, without the humidity which is a bonus!! You take a smaller plane from Perth to get there and once there you can either do cabin type accommodation or backpackers etc.... read more

Well I thought I would try this online journal thing and I'm quite excited. I've started it late considering I'm staying here for over a year but I thought I would go back and put some pictures on so everyone can see my journey's. I am living here in Christchurch and attending Christchurch College of Education. However, one of the primary reasons for travelling so far for college was to get outdoors and adventure. I intend to keep that in mind and am planning various adventures for the coming year. So far I'm missing friends and families. My lovely family in Daegu, Korea was amazing to me and I miss the love everyday. But I've found some amazing flatmates and a good city. I'll explore from here. New Zealand is beautiful and the people are friendly. ... read more

Sunday, 9 May I didn’t leave home until ten this morning and made my way onto the Hume Freeway by way of Yea, through Bonnie Doon to Benalla, The weather was good throughout the eight-hour drive to the nation’s capital. Found my way to the Rex Hotel. This time my room was on the first floor with a balcony that overlooked the hotels air-conditioner units. I tried two places for a meal that evening, both without luck, either too busy or booked out. In the end settled for take-away. Where I was staying there was a door leading to an adjoining room and through the door; I could hear the occupant’s conversations. Went down to the reception to ask for another room. Ten minutes later back at the room I packed up my gear and moved ... read more

Hello all! My name is Toni. I turn 26 on the 18th August and Darwin, Northern Territory is my home. In 87 days I am embarking on the trip of a lifetime! Very excited!! Pretty darn nervous too, but I think that's good!! At midnight on the 25th July, I fly to Sydney to spend some time with my Brother & his family, and also a good friend of mine. Then on the morning of August 2nd, I depart from Sydney (On Vietnam Airlines!) bound for Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), where I will have 7 hrs to have a look around, then off to Paris just before midnight. I'll have a couple of hours to get a grip on the Paris airport, which will be very helpful as I will definitely be returning there. Then ... read more

Sunday 2 May 2004 Just after one in the afternoon, I left my driveway, heading out of town for another country job. I needed a change in direction; instead of going through Yarra Glen, I followed the Maroondah Highway through Healesville, then over the Black Spur to Alexandra. A short time later, the road joins the Yea Road, which in turn passes through Bonnie Doon. It was a nice change and the traffic was light. By four o’clock, I had arrived at the Commodore Motor Inn, located in the centre of Albury. As I walked into the reception, I noticed on the door it was a three and half-star complex. The room seemed to be larger than the room I stayed in, on a recent trip to Canberra. I unloaded the car and made myself comfortable ... read more

PNG- News # 13 (April 26, 2004 ) Brother Pat, the elder and mediator who worked in the Bougainville crisis, told me about a man who wanted to train with him. “But you are known in the community to beat your wife,” suggested Brother Pat. His answer: “She is not my wife, she is my girlfriend." Domestic violence and rape are rampant throughout the country -it’s out of control. In fact, all women are encouraged to wear black every Thursday to indicate our stand on violence against women. The power of the community of men is so strong that it just doesn’t make sense to report these injustices. Br. Pat also told me the following story that happened in his village. For 10 years one family had a mango tree, which bore much fruit. The neighbours ... read more
