My mom and I have made it to Australia after the long-haul flight on Singapore Airlines with stops at Vancouver, Seoul, Singapore and we finally arrived at Sydney. For those of you thinking of doing long-haul flights, I highly recommend Singapore Airlines as you'll be entertained for hours on end with your choice of over 50 movies to watch at any time (Malaysian only had twelve that ran regardless of you watching or not). Colin and Val, a couple that we were with on our European tour two years ago, picked us up from the airport and gave us the quick 1 1/2 day tour of sydney and the surrounding area. Sydney really reminds me of Vancouver with its location next to the ocean and cosmopolitan nature. In the rain, we toured around the harbour and ... read more

Hi everybody. Sorry it has been so long since the last post but school is keeping me very busy at the moment. My classes, while very interesting are a lot of work! But it hasnt been all reading and writing, I have had a couple of fun distractions from the books. On Thursday I went to the Sarah Mclachlan concert at the Regent Theatre in Melbourne. Not only did I get to see a fantastic concert, I got to meet Sarah herself! She was extremly nice and I got both a picture with her, and she signed one of my c.d.s as well. Very exciting stuff. Last weekend was also Labour Day over here (I have to admit it was a bit weird to celebrate Labour Day in March instead of September). Every year Melbourne ... read more

We left in the evening to a beachcamp located near the Seven Mile Beach. We arrived late night and went to bed after a nice walk on the beach, some bonfire and some beers. The next morning started early at 7 am with breakkfast and then we were off to the beach for our first surflesson. It was very useful to get professional advises and just after one hour in the water I was already standing up. After this surfcamp I am now able to get up on the board and make some occasional turns. Now that I have the basic skills I will improve them on Bondi for the time I have left in Sydney :) I have put up some pictures from the camp as well.. hope you like it!... read more

So...as you've probably gathered I am heading off to Thailand April 2-28th. I am flying into Bankok and will be leaving from Phuket. I am getting excited about heading there...tomorrow I get my shots and malaria pills so that should be a fun day!! I've been doing a ... read more

Wednesday morning we left Picton on a beautiful drive to a small town called Takaka. On the way we had a short glimpse on the Queen Charlotte Sound again. We heard people saying there was no point to do the track because you can see it from the road, so if anybody comes here remember: it's bullshit... go and walk, you'll see much better views! Then we stopped in Havelock which is "the town of the green mussels". Unfortunately, it was too early for lunch, but still we shared a bowl of mussels chowder (very creamy and very tasty soup), and we decided we'll pay them a real visit for dinner on our way back there! It was very yummie! The drive to Takaka goes through magnificient views (as always in NZ), and Takaka itself is ... read more

Hi Ho Hi Ho... What do you get for your 75 year old Dad? Well if you are our family, you drag him 159kms along an disused rail road to sleep under bridges and in 5 foot long (did I mention he's 6 foot 2?) little red sheds in the teeth of a southerly gale. I think he loved it. I did. We set off from our respective homes via plane and car to catch a flight from Wellington, to link to a bus from Dunedin, that would drop us off at the rail head in Clyde. We planned on making our way by foot (dodging the cyclists) to the end of the trail in Middlemarch to catch the trail that would take us back to Dunedin. We gave ourselves a week. Plenty of timeā€¦ Brief ... read more
