We did allude to the fact haven’t seen much arm candy, and the latest survey shows only 2% of kiwi women think they are beautiful! The other thing that is rare around here is recycling bins, the amount of stuff that could be recycled that intstead goes to landfill is astonishing. But try telling a kiwi that, the special UN reporter was ridiculed on breakfast tv for mentioning it. That is the sort of 40yr old feel you get here - we’re a beautifuly island and we don’t need change. As to the logging, well there are huge forests that are logged then replanted and then again there are scenes along the road that seem quite out of place (see photo) . We’ve moved from Rotorua to Napier, and along to Hastings. jb has driven over ... read more

Well we are on the gold coast now. We have been doing a lot. We went “Zorbing”. Basically ripping down a big hill in a huge plastic ball with 40 gallons of water swishing around us. It was amazing, but it was over too fast. We are staying in a sweet apartment with Tenneals mates Kane and Shane. Shane works the bungy in Surfers and he tries to get us to jump everyday. He says crazy things like "You can do it for free! Its so fun! Ive only had one person pee their pants! Ive done it over 100 times!" Im happy for Shane, but I will indeed wet myself, and I want to keep peeing my pants out of the public eye.... Back to the apartment...we have a huge balcony with a patio set ... read more

HI Guys Well we have made it out of Asia, after three days continuous travel from Koh Phangan and a few close shaves. We almost missed our connecting flight out of Singapore because Claire was too busy duty free shopping. We had to run the entire length of the airport but we made it with 2 minutes to spare, opps. We arrived in Perth at about 1 in the morning and were expecting to have hassle when going through customs, having to provide proof our savings and stating how long we were going to stay in order to get our holiday work visa. It turned out that no one there cared and they were more interested in if we were smuggling chickens into the country. There is a definite bird flu crack down going on worldwide. ... read more

For some reason I went to the Olympic Stadium with the other guys, I wasn't too interested. So as soon as we got there me and Tom got the the train back. That was pretty cool, it was 3 levels and the seats moved so u can face in the right direction! Tonight was special as we were going to walk the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Once we got there the preperation took an hour, getting all the gear on and stuff! The first part of the walk was the scariest part because you can see underneath your feet. The actual walk was well over an hour, we walked up the Opera House side, got to the top and walked down the other side. The view was amazing and it was great exercise, so we were starving ... read more

What a great start to the day - the alternative and organic 'envy' cafe. A glass of 'envy' juice - lime, pineapple, grapefruit and ginger washing down a bacon, egg, onion, mushroom and cheese burger. Yum! After I was well and truly stuffed I walked along the coast across the Alexandra Headland to Mooloolaba. Mooloolaba seemed to consist almost entirely of cafes and souvenier shops, but was not as tacky for it as you might expect. I decided to go on a river and canal cruise to get a feel for the area - and its elaborate waterfront properties with pricetags far outside the reach of the mere mortal. First was the multimillion house owned by a microbiologist who invented an oil eating enzyme... a few doors down was the huge 'croc one' boat outside a ... read more

Tuesday April 4th Lo all from OZ We got a fairly early start today. With us staying at the resort overnight we got a free breakfast at one of the restaurants. It was a buffet breakfast, and was pretty good. There was quite the character in there, an old English lady, who was talking to everyone in the restaurant. Especially about her toast, and whether it was hers or yours! We booked an ATV ride, as you only had to be 6 or older to do it, it was booked for 10 am, but we switched it to 9am as we had already eaten. So there we are, getting ready to go on the ATV’s. I’m not sure how Wes is going to do, as he’s never done this before. Kirk, Wes and Paulina get the ... read more

Mind the gap 19-23/03/06 We're off down the West Coast on State Highway 6, the road rolls gently for the first few miles, then we crawl up Costello Hill, before finding out what 40mph rain feels like freewheeling down the other side. We struggle over three more vicious hills and reach the sea, the views are amazing, beautiful little bays with waves rolling in; we want to live in every house we see. We reach Punakaiki in the late afternoon, our progress having been slowed by photo stops at every bay. The backpackers is full so we pitch the tent in their garden and say hello to the German guy from St Arnaud, again! The next morning we head for Greymouth, we're undecided if we will stop there or get as far as Hokitika, it all ... read more
