Happy 2007 folks, this year has flown by aint it. I'm about ready to head out of Sydney now having spent a few weeks here. This friday we're off up the coast towards Cairns with a paddy called Rob. He's doing the same route as us so it makes sense to split the cost of the car rental........a 3.6litre V6 Mitsubishi. Not playing games here I tell thi. It works out at around 400 sheets each which aint too bad for 7 weeks rental. We'll have a lot more freedom this way as well so I'm looking forward to it. For new years, we headed for Circular Quay which is near the harbour and opera house. We managed to get in by squeezing through the fence and doing the old tensing the shoulder trick to knock ... read more

Hello, we've sadly finished our trip down the east coast of Australia and have reached Sydney. Between Brisbane and here we had a lovely week soaking up the sun, sea, surf, and hippy atmosphere in Byron Bay. While there we did a lovely walk up to a lighthouse which is the Eastern most point of Australia (we also did the Southern most point in Tasmania). It was then just a quick stop of at Coff's Harbour and Port Maquarie before our last stop of Newcastle. Here we did a day trip to the infamous Hunter Valley for a bit of wine tasting. Needless to say we took full advantage of the wine on offer and got a little tiddly. Just before Christmas we spent two weeks in Fiji. It was brilliant. The Fijian people truly lived ... read more

Hey Guys Well, I know ive been neglecting the blog, but its all been rather hectic since my last tales were bestowed upon those unfortunate enough to be able to access the internet. I think I had come back from Queenstown the last time I wrote, as a young man (well, relatively speaking), with a head full of dreams but with pockets full of holes i had been invigorated by the south island scenery, this was soon knocked out of me after a couple of weeks back in Auckland (or after several beer soaked leaving dos - I cant quite remember which came first), but I was soon to find myself in the thick of it once more. Two weekends after my Queenstown Adventure, it was the New Zealand Leg of the WRC (World Rally Championship ... read more

Back again and not at 100% unfortunately, have had a nasty cold recently which has now turned into a cough, so you'll have to bear with me in this blog as I'll probably have loads of coughing fits whilst writing it, hopefully it shouldn't affect you reading it too much. Right, the 3rd of January we ended up in the same location as on NYE where a big screen had been erected to show the cricket. We sat out there until tea when it started to rain, so we headed to the nearest shelter we could find which by pure luck also turned out to be a pub! Despite raining in the centre of Sydney where we were, it still hadn't found it's way a couple of miles up the road to the cricket ground so ... read more

So we arrived in Taupo late afternoon, we were exhausted after the hostel from hell! Lake Taupo is stunning one of the most beautiful lakes I've seen. We really wanted to start getting into doing activities, extreme sports is after all what New Zealands known for! But as Adventurous as we are, we thought we'd start of with Kayaking! We did a bit in Oz but that was amature compared to the 4 and a half hour stint we did. We had a guide and were in a two man kayak, had to wear the life jacket and skirt( the skirt's what you wear round youre waist and what seals you into the Kayak, if you tip over you pull the tag to get yourself free, my hands were on the tag!) It was an amazing ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! And welcome to my first blog of 2007. It's quite a full one because I have been super busy since my last entry and got up to all kinds of wonderful and amazing things. I am sorry it has taken me so long to get it published, but I was having a lot of trouble loading up the pictures. As it is, I have added only a fraction of them, because it was really just taking too long. So I have not put on anything from the Catlins Coast (Invercargill to Dunedin) or from Dunedin, like my pics from the Taieri Gorge Railway. Sorry about that! I might try adding these at a later date... Anyway....Going way back to 2006 firstly...On Christmas Day I flew from Auckland on the north island to Queenstown ... read more

Well everyone, I didn't want to ruin the joy of the last blog by adding this note. Unfortunately and devastatingly, both our digital cameras have broken and we are without the abililty to capture images to put onto our site. So I'm afraid you will have to make do with the ole text. Also we are back on UK Mobiles which can only receive texts. I am 00 44 7709807259 and Helen is 00 44 7751665082.... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Rubyvale January 7th 2007

We set off to Rubyvale to make our fortune saphire mining. This was a very interesting experience, digging in former river beds hoping to find the big one! It rained really heavily the night before we set off to meet our fossicker expert, good job we have a 4WD- but our boots struggled. The bush was hot, wet but we had a ball, digging, getting in a mess, sifting buckets of much for that little ray of colour. We did find some saphires, which at the time was veryexciting- none proved big enough to show off in a special ring or something? Lots of people were set up for the entire winter, living in tents or camper vans- complete with portaloo on site... read more
